Product Description

Review

"Chekhov, speaking simply and never otherwise than as an artist and a humane man, shows us in fullness and plenitude the mystery of our lives."--Eudora Welty

Product Description

Chekhov's plays are both widely read as literature and constantly performed, giving them unsurpassed ubiquity. Gathered here -- in a superb new translation by one of the best, and best-known, contemporary translators -- are Chekhov's four masterpieces: The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters, and The Cherry Orchard.

I have no quibbles with the standard of the translation of these wonderful plays by Stephen Mulrine, but the quality of the book itself is poor. Within a day of having it pages were falling out - the binding is just of abysmal quality and after one week my book is held together by numerous staples and lashings of glue.

Admittedly it is cheap, and this of course compromises quality, but I would urge prospective buyers to look at other, higher quality publications of these four plays.
