Surprisingly good 14 July 2008
I bought this over the 110 model as it has Trizor plus sharpening and it sounded good. Yes I am that shallow! :)

The reviews for the 110 are good but to be honest I have never been any good with either a whetstone or sharpening steel. My global knives are now blunt which is a shame so I thought I would try this. So I was dubious this would work too.

After reading the instructions and turning it on I gave it a bash with all my knives. The instructions say not to cut the plastic by pushing down too hard but being a 16 stone 6 foot 2 bloke I still managed to do this. After thinking about Tinkerbell doing it I was ok, you have to put more pressure to the inside than down. The instruction manual says only one or two strokes are necessary but my knives are so blunt it took me multiple strokes. 1 and 2 give a nice sharp edge which feels sharp due to the burr it makes, 3 smoothes off the burr but can make it feel less sharp because of this, but I think that is psychological.

Interestingly my cheapest knife is really razor sharp the expensive Global ones are not quite even though they were incredible when new. I think this shows lack of expertise by the operator rather than the machine as the global are probably made of a lot tougher steel so needs more technique and patience. I'll just keep practicing on them trying different amounts of 1,2 and 3.

Big question of course is whether this is worth that much more than the 110, rather hard to tell without trying them back to back to be honest. The 120 and 130 both use springs to hold the knife in place, the 110 uses magnets. The 120 has a final stropping stage to get rid of the burr the 110 does not. The 120 has a bit more wattage as well and apparently takes half the time to resharpen. It also does serated knives. But does it make your knife sharper? Probably, but from the 110 reviews in general that seems to make a good job of it.

Pretty impressed, so 5 stars. Finally the frustration of spening 20 minutes manually at a steel or whetstone for no real improvement are gone forever.

Almost faultless 28 Dec 2010
I have lost count of the number of knife sharpeners I've owned. I have whetstones, steels, cheap handhelds, a ceramic two-stage wheel unit, and 2 electric sharpeners.
This is the best of the bunch. It is virtually idiot-proof, and very easy to use. It sharpens fairly rapidly, with little effort - perfect if you are sharpening a whole drawer-full of knives.
The edge it gives is a convex 2 step "V" - sharp and long-lasting. I use it with all my knives, from cheapo blades to my Tojiro Senkou and Zwilling & Henckels.
Drawbacks? It's expensive. It's bulky and heavy, and every time you want to use it you have to plug it in (I leave mine on the counter-top permanently). And the knives do cut into the plastic of the unit, as other reviewers have commented - this seems to be an unavoidable (but very minor) design flaw.
If you're not short of cash, or you have a large number of high quality knives, or you use your knives a lot, this is the sharpener for you.

I've been using the sharper for about a year now, but I have found it is very difficult to purchase the discs because I've had no luck finding a supplier ?
I cannot find any fault in the machine at all it puts an edge on a knife better than a sharper I've come across
