After the Diane debacle, the irony of the sixth season is that wedding bells are in the air. Carla is on the verge of hitching up with her Boston Bruins boyfried, Eddie LeBec (Jay Thomas), until a string of bad luck threatens to tear apart the "two most superstitious people in the world." Then Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) is the victim of a prank that turns serious when he decides to dump live-in psychologist-lover Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth) in order to "pursue the fair Rebecca." Other events of the season include Sam as a rapping sportscaster, Sam and Woody being sold in a charity auction, Woody entering a romance with an older woman while dressed up as Mark Twain, and another showdown with Gary's Old Town Tavern. Cheers missed Shelley Long, but it remained a high-quality show; her career missed Cheers infinitely more. --David Horiuchi
Synopsis
One of the most beloved and critically-acclaimed sitcoms of all time, CHEERS ran for 10 series and centred on the colourful staff and patrons of the Boston bar 'where everybody knows your name'. Run by former Red Sox pitcher and ladies' man Sam Malone (Ted Danson), the establishment's ever-present characters include salty barmaid Carla LeBec (Rhea Perlman), dim-witted bartender Woody Boyd (Woody Harrelson), barflies Norm Peterson (George Wendt) and Cliff Clavin (John Ratzenberger), pompous psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), and his frosty love interest Lilith Sternin (Bebe Neuwirth). Following the departure of barmaid Diane Chambers (Shelley Long) in Series Five, the sixth series introduces Rebecca Howe (Kirstie Alley) as Cheers' ambitious but neurotic new manager after Sam's sale of the bar to a faceless corporation. Featuring guest appearances by Tom Skerritt, Robert Urich, Jay Thomas, Frances Sternhagen, and Harry Anderson, this collection presents all 25 episodes of CHEERS' Emmy Award-winning sixth series--including Home Is The Sailor, named by TV Guide as an all-time classic.
