Album Description
• Ace presents a single-group set of doo wop delights from the King label.
• The Checkers were a splinter group from Billy Ward’s Dominoes, built around Bill Brown and Charlie White (who would later go on to be an early member of the Drifters with another ex-Domino, Clyde McPhatter).
• To further reinforce the Drifters’ connection, the Checkers’ lead singer on many of these tracks is "Little" David Baughn, who replaced McPhatter in the Drifters when he was called up for military service. Thus what’s here is, in essence, the Drifters before – and after - the Drifters were formed.
• A great mix of smooth doo wop ballads and uptempo jumpers, with many tracks making their their reissue or CD debut.

THE CHECKERS HAVE THAT GREAT DOO WOP SOUND. YOU'LL ESPECIALLY LOVE "DON'T STOP DAN" SORT OF AN ANSWER TO THE DIAMONDS SIXTY MINUTE MAN.
