As suspected, there are few British decimal coins that are worth much more than face value, and those that are need to be in uncirculated condition to be worth even a small premium. It actually says in the introduction to the book, "Any coin that is not in uncirculated grade usually has virtually no value above the face value," so don't expect to find a fortune in your loose change.

As a beginner's coin catalogue this is all well and good, and there are some interesting facts to be gleaned about the coins in your pocket, but if you are looking to make a subsidiary income by acquiring collectable coins from your small change and selling them for profit, forget it!

It doesn't help that the edition is two years out of date either.

This book would really only be of any interest to those of us in Britain but it is a great little reference for the coins we see everyday. Obviously the examples on the front cover are very exciting prospects to find, but you will soon see that there aren't really many coins out there in everyday circulation that are worth a great deal of money above their face value. That said, if you want to make sure a valuable rarity doesn't slip through your hands or you want to learn a bit more about the coins we all see but don't really LOOK at everyday then this book is excellent!

An essential quick reference for checking most of the basics with regard to the coins in our pockets. I have an interest in mintage figures as they normally determine the rarity and the value of a coin. My only dissapointment with this title is that it does not break down the total mintage figures of the two pound coin normal and commemorative issues. Maybe these figures are not available? Maybe very few people share the same interst as I? Apart from this I will continue to make reference to this title and other titles in the Rotographic series on a daily basis. Thank You Mr Perkins

Ever wondered what to do on a cold winter night. You could spend a while sorting through the loose change that's lying around the house. In which case, like me you might find this little book quite handy.
On the other hand you could always go back to the old favourite, De fleaing the dog.
