Misty Evans and Adrienne Giordano are back with the second instalment of the thrilling Justice Team series.
This time around we have Mitch Monroe; we had met Mitch in book one and I for one was very curious about the man who was a ghost and lived off the grid, so was thrilled to be getting his story. Within the first chapter we get a good feel for who Mitch is and how he’s living and then bam! by the end of that chapter…. Mitch is framed for murder and his already fugitive status just sent him straight to the top of his former colleagues’ to-do lists. Needing help he turns to Special Agent Caroline Foster, not only a top agent but also a top sniper and the woman he spent one incredible night with. Caroline has never forgotten Mitch, he broke her heart when he ran and cut all contact with her but she knows Mitch did not do the crimes he is accused of, so when he tells her about another friends death and she checks out those claims…. She decides she will put the past behind her and help him clear his name. Yet again she finds her career in jeopardy through Mitch but if what they uncover is true… they really need to blow this case wide open, not only in the hopes of freeing Mitch but to catch the real culprits… not only putting their lives in danger…. But their hearts.
This is yet another movie worthy book filled with intensity, passion, injustice, action and romance that hits all the spots for me. I mentioned that Mitch had caught my interest in book one, I liked his character then so I was definitely invested in his book and that opening chapter was definitely a shocker but what a great way to open the book because it hooked you in straight away.

Review:

What do you do when everything you thought you knew about truth, about justice, about the very people tasked with protecting what is good and just in the world . . . is wrong. Deeply and irreparably wrong. When everything is falling apart, and good people are dying – all for the sake of hiding a horrendous political cluster (well, you know the four letter word to insert here).

This is the second in the Justice Team series. In the first, Stealing Justice Justice “Grey” Greystone was fired from the FBI for insubordination. We learn a bit more about Grey in this second volume, but this one actually revolves around two different characters from that book, Mitch Monroe, former FBI golden boy now turned fugitive from the law, and Caroline Foster, FBI agent and FBI SWAT team sharpshooter

Monroe is trying desperately to find out who set up his best friend and fellow FBI agent, Tommy Nusco. Nusco, seconded to the ATF in New Mexico has ended up dead in the street, and upper management seems determined to brand Tommy as a traitor to his country, a rouge agent selling automatic weapons to drug dealers and Mexican gunrunners. When Monroe’s other best friend, Kemp Rodgers, winds up dead after a secret meeting with Monroe in Rock Creek Park, the situation becomes even more dire.

Along with Grey and Monroe’s former partner, Caroline, Monroe and his scruffy yet loyal band of misfits find themselves embroiled in political intrigue and a vast coverup which reaches to the very top levels of the government. Who to turn to, who to trust, is entirely unknown as the depth and breadth of the coverup leads to more murders and deeper levels of governmental malfeasance.

Evans and Giordano have crafted an exceptional political thriller. Yes, yes, I know they call it “Romantic Suspense” and there is some romance in there, as what appears to be a long time attraction between Mitch and Caroline comes to a head. but I was much more impressed by the political story that Monroe, Grey, Caroline and ex-ATF agent Brice Brennan are faced with. Suspenseful, thrilling, and with an exceptional degree of political knowledge Cheating Justice is very much a novel for our times, pointing out the corruption inherent in the modern political system.Highly recommended. i will be downloading the first in the series, and will be watching for a possible third.

HASH(0x9acb9078) out of 5 stars Great book! 22 July 2014
By paula legate - Published on Amazon.com

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. This story drew me right in, I loved the plot, and the suspense.

Mitch, Tommy, and Kemp had been best friends throughout high school. After graduation they joined the FBI. The instructors had called the three friends, The Three Musketeers.

Tommy had been working undercover when he was killed. The FBI, and ATF, and people high up in the government is trying to cover up the murder by saying Tommy went rouge. Mitch is determined to get justice for his friend Tommy. Kemp was also murdered, and Mitch was wanted for questioning. He was a fugitive, and on the run.

He needed Caroline's help. They had shared one steamy night together, that the two pretended never happened. They still had that simmering heat that sizzled when they were close to one another. Caroline is a FBI agent, and she is one heck of a good shot. Caroline knew she was burning her career when she decided to help Mitch prove who was behind the murder of his friends.

This book was so good. I loved the banter between Caroline, and Mitch. The lake scene had me smiling. Nothing like being caught skinny dipping. The action, and suspense was intense. Some people in the government are dirty, and it can be very dangerous to try to bring them down. Caroline, and Mitch, and a few other friends worked hard to build a case, and dig up clues. The problem was they didn't know who to trust, or how high in the ranks the corruption went. I would recommend this book, if you love books with action, suspense, and a dash of romance along with a great plot!

HASH(0x9aabef90) out of 5 stars Scapegoat 6 Aug. 2014

This book is even better than the first book in the series, which was a great opener. After punching out his FBI supervisor, Mitch has spent the past year avoiding arrest and helping his former partner, Justice Greystone, bring down a serial killer (book one). Now, his two best friends have been murdered and he has seen himself on the news as a fugitive and a person of interest in the most recent death. Mitch turns to a friend still inside the agency for help with getting information about the death of the first friend who was working undercover with the ATF in New Mexico. What Caroline finds is sealed files and red flags. Caroline wants justice for Tommy, who was her friend, too. But working with the renegade Mitch may be the end of her career, if not her life. Because Tommy is being set up posthumously as a traitor and the cover-up leads all the way to the top levels of government.

This story is reminiscent of headlines not so long ago about the ATF and released guns. Which makes it uncomfortably realistic. How far will people in power go to retain power or to gain even more power? To further their agenda? As Justice Greystone sagely said, "Karma is a b@@ch." And as the leader of the new ghost Justice Team, he is in a position to know. Book Three can't come soon enough.

HASH(0x9ab79bd0) out of 5 stars Awesome Book! 22 July 2014

AWESOME BOOK! This is the second in the "Justice Team series". I highly recommend both Stealing Justice (book1) and Cheating Justice. They are great FBI/Private Sector books with lots of suspense, action and of course romantic interests. The books are written in a way that keeps you on your toes with twist yet make you laugh and smile at the same time.

In Cheating Justice we get to catchup on the team from Book 1 (Stealing Justice) and that is always a plus. The women in the series are strong and can hold their own against the tough FBI/Investigator males they work with and love. In Book 2 our hero is on the run fighting to clear his name and return to the real world. When his closest friends are killed he has to get help from the one gal he can't get out of his head after a mind blowing one night stand. (What he doesn't know is she has never gotten him out of her head as well). Trouble is, she is still 100% FBI and he's a former FBI guy that's on the run. Helping him just might cost her the job of her dreams or possibly gain her the love of her life.

Highly recommend!

HASH(0x9a8f5f78) out of 5 stars Awesome Series!! 22 July 2014

Misty and Adrienne have done it again! This is book two in the Justice Team series, and it is just as good as the first book! This book can be read as a standalone; however, I recommend that you read both books in the series because they are both awesome! Mitch is a former FBI agent who has been hiding, since he punched his former boss who is pressing charges. Mitch learns that his friends have been murdered and he is now being framed for their murder. He asks FBI agent Caroline for help. But last time he asked for Caroline’s help he almost ruined her career. They must work together to find out why his friends were killed and fight the passion they still have. This book has romance, humor, mystery, and kick ass females. I can’t get enough of this series. I can’t wait until the next book in the series comes out.
