as I always do before I buy a DVD I have never seen, I read the reviews. They seemed good, so I bought it. But I wasn't expecting much apart from a good laugh. Well, I was not disappointed, on the contrary, I found this couple of films - both of them, to my surprise! (I am quite wary when it comes to sequels) - simply GREAT from more than one point of view. First because they really are funny (I laughed my head off!!), and second because they left me food for thoughts (something I did NOT expect from a comedy this type!!)
Maybe I am particularly sensitive to this topic (relationship parent-children) having a 3 year old daughter and being pregnant again... anyway I think the characters were amazingly true, believable, even if the situations that made me laugh were clearly pure fiction! I found myself crying at the end of both movies and still now, a week after watching them, I find myself talking about these films to my mom/husband/friends. So, if you are a young parent like myself, these films give you an opportunity to think about the kind of parent you really want to be and the type of relationship you want to have with your kids, bearing in mind "there is no perfect father/mother" but if you are a teenager or younger you will love it as anybody can identify with one of the kids too, and it is a lot of fun!! It's one of those movies you can own and watch over and over again!

Both films were great 20 Dec 2011
Format:DVD
Well, ain't this a treat. Before I found this cheap at a car boot sale, i had never heard of it. Steve Martin is really funny in all of his films, Pink Panther, Pink Panther 2, Parenthood, It's Complicated etc. I had a feeling it wouldn't be a disappointment. What's it about is two parents that have twelve kids of different ages, just the thought of them having twelve kids just makes me laugh. The first film and the second film have completely different stories, the first one is about Tom (Steve Martin) looking after the kids on his own, and manage a football team. His wife, Kate (Bonnie Hunt, Jumangi) trying to publish her written book, which funnily enough is called 'Cheaper By The Dozen'. The second one comes in where their all off back to the lake and unexpectedly meet up with an old friend, Jimmy Murtagh (Eugene Levy, Dumb and Dumberer, Like Mike).

CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN

This is the first film of the double pack, I didn't know what to expect from it really. If I would find it funny or not...I really did. There was loads of funny moments which me and all of us that were watching it found pretty hilarious. The twelve kids are funny, especially the younger ones like Kyle, Nigel, Sarah and Mike. The main funny bits were scene's with Beans the frog and Mark, a scene right at the start which is so funny, the biggest laugh of the film probably. Another funny scene is when Steve Martin is lying to Bonnie Hunt on the phone and saying that their doing homework, when actually their running around with baloons, tennis balls, darts and all kinds of dangerous objects...it's very funny. This film does have a serious side to it though towards the end. If I had to pick out a problem it would be that at the scene where Dylan's having party, on the bonus material the scene is extended, longer and a lot funnier. If that was in the film it would've been absolutely perfect.

CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2

The best one of the two, but not by much. It's got more funny moments in, about the same amount of slapstick and more comic style as the kids are more grown up. There are lots of funny bits in this film, too many sometimes, it's a lot funnier than the first one. Funny moments include Steve Martin training his kids for an upcoming contest, Tom and Kate pretending the like Jimmy Murtagh, Tom spying on Sarah on her date, Tom building the tyre swing, all of them singing around the campfire, Nora having a baby, the canoe race and many, many more. Nothing's bad about this film, it's pretty much all round hilarious. Tom meets Jimmy Murtagh an old school friend/enemy/envy-er. With a contest coming up both families are fighting for revenge, because Jimmy has eight kids and Tom has twelve means their even more competitive, its very, very, very funny!

The Cheaper by the Dozen films are good. I wonder how the parents can manage 12 kids (can you believe it?) Loads of entertainment, laugs and sobs. If you are used to these kind of films then get this because the two of these are funnier than a lot of other films. You will enjoy watching them. I recommend this.
