Tiny but Mighty, 8 Dec 2002
A while ago i purchased an expensive, 4 million megapixel digital camera. It takes great pictures and i still use it now, but i wanted to buy something smaller, that i could take out with me to bars and clubs, without having to worry about losing. I needed something that was cheap, small, and could take ok quality photographs for showing to family and friends. Finally, after much searching, i came across the Che-ez! Moni-Me camera. It is literally the size of a small mobile phone (such as the erricsson T65) and is extemely well-endowed. It can take pictures of up to 330,000 pixels (which is fine for photos at parties etc.) However, the real winner for the Moni-Me is its LCD screen. This allows pictures to be viewed whilst on move, and really sets this camera apart from all the others in its size and price range. That's all well and good, you may say, but what's it like in the flesh? As soon as I took it out the packaging and picked it up for the first time, i fell in love with it. It has a tiny, full metal body and a sliding lens cover, giving it a quality, sosphisticated feel which belies its price. Set up and installation was no problem, and I was ready to start shooting within 30 minutes. Now, for the pictures... The first time it took the Moni-Me out, it was to the local nightclub. It slipped comfortably into the back pocket of my jeans and i barely even noticed it was there! Despite having had a few to drink, and never having used the camera before, it was simple to manipulate. The next morning i loaded the pictures onto my PC and was amazed at the quality, especially since the camera has no flash and only 0.3 megapixels. I emailed the results to my mates and we all had a good laugh. The only real rival to the Moni-Me is the sipix blink, but the Moni-Me is streaks ahead as it feels more expensive, takes better pictures, and has its own lcd... Now the Moni-Me never leaves my pocket and i've even bought my girl-friend one. I would recommend to anyone as a secondary "fun" camera, with good results from point-and-shoot simplicity. The only flaw to the Moni-Me is its no-upgradable 4MB memory, which still allows for 60 fine quality pictures (the equivilent of three rolls of standard 35mm film). But this is nothing to worry about as long as you upload your pictures regularly. The battery compumption was fine, with one AA cell (although i would recommend using alkaline instead of rechargable batteries for better results). In short, this camera is suitable for ANYONE and is could beat the hell out of any other camera at its price level. You'd be mad not to buy it!
