Not usually into female opera singing having focussed on the tenor repetoire, I sampled a few discs first.
Andrea Rost stood out the minute that I heard the opening bars of Non so piu...., and things just got better and better.
She sings every word - almost in bel canto - and it'd be interesting to hear her duet with Juan Diego Florez. However, until that happens buy this CD, you won't be disappointed.
The recording quality is great seeing the singer in front of the Orchestra rather than in its midst as happens with so many recordings.
The recording is ambitious in that the performance covers many major characters from the most well known Mozart Opera repetoire. Andrea Rost delivers a thoroughly convincing and emotive performance seeing the characters come to life through an amazing voice and great attention to detail.
Andrea Rost's presentation is extremely musically involving. She's in your living room with you when the disc is on - fabulous and highly recommended.

Superb. I second the earlier review.

Ok, so not in the outstanding way of the leading divas - but perhaps for a collection of war-horses (in the best sense of the word, this IS Mozart) a very competent and stylish reading is enough. Sometimes I prefer plain vanilla ice cream. The FL chamber orch is excellent, as is Andrea Rost, in this sense. Nothing stodgy or humdrum. And the recording is demo-class. Beautiful.
