Product Description

One year ago, Alex Towne's body was found.

One month ago, his mother saw him on the street.

One week ago, David Raker agreed to look for him.

Now he wishes he hadn't.

Mary Towne's son, Alex, went missing six years ago. Five years later he finally turned up - as a corpse in a car wreck. Missing persons investigator David Raker doesn't want the work: it's clearly a sad but hopeless case of mistaken identity brought to him by a woman unable to let go of her son. But haunted by a loss of his own, Raker reluctantly agrees.

Big mistake.

For as he digs deeper, he discovers that Alex's life was not the innocent one his mother believed. Buried in his past are secrets that were never meant to be found - and dark, dangerous men willing to kill to protect them.

Soon Raker will discover that there are things far worse than death . . .

Format:Paperback
This book starts off well, with a great mystery, it's easy to read, intriguing and exciting. I'd read 200 pages before I knew it. Unfortunately, for me, the early promise of the story failed to deliver; it changed from an intriguing mystery to very far fetched and violent. It's not a bad book, just not what I expected, and there is a very good twist at the end that was most unexpected.
I liked the style of writing but found the subject matter a bit weird and unpleasant.

Chasing The Dead 9 April 2011
By Rich
Format:Paperback
David Raker finds missing people. His latest assignment is to find Alex, a young man who was killed in a car accident, but whose mother swears she's seen him alive.

It begins well and Weaver builds a creepy atmosphere but somewhere round about the middle of the book it all becomes an endless cycle of violent confrontations. David Raker quickly turns into Rambo able to withstand any amount of physical violence. I think the biggest problem here is that you just don't care about any of the characters, or what happens to them. They're like ghosts in fog. The revelations at the end were for me just too silly to have any impact. There is not much sense of time and place either. It's supposed to be Winter, but despite references to snow it could be the middle of summer. It feels as if the author lost his grip on his characters and what happens around them. Undistinguished and sadly forgettable. It seems there's another David Raker novel on the way, so maybe I'm missing something here.

Format:Paperback
Plot driven page turner but the denouement is disappointing and bordering on the ridiculous. Great for a long flight or train journey if killing time and distraction are your aims. Very little literary merit however - read James Lee Burke, Peter Temple or Ian Rankin for character driven, atmospheric prose.

Abysmal
One of the worst books I have read. The author thinks he is Simon Kernick, but he writes terrible, terrible stuff. Utterly abysmal.

Excellent start but then descended into a complete farce.
I was really looking forward to reading this book. I love a good crime-thriller novel I can really get absorbed in and the premise for this one sounded brilliant. Read more
