Book Description

The Green Beret Series by NY Times Bestselling Author, former Green Beret and West Point Graduate, Bob Mayer

Covert operative Horace Chase has been chasing ghosts his entire life.

First, his Medal-of-Honor winner father who died in Vietnam without ever meeting his son. And left him the legacy of an automatic appointment to the Military Academy at West Point which shaped the next thirty-five years of Chase's life. Then, the ghost of his mother, who died while he was at war in Afghanistan and wounded, causing him to resign his commission and return to the United States, a lost soul.

Chase now wears two hats as a Federal counter-terrorism liaison to the local police department in Boulder, Colorado where he becomes embroiled in two seemingly un-related cases. Working as a detective with Boulder PD he chases another death, this one the apparent rape/murder of Rachel Stevens, an upscale housewife attending night classes at the University of Colorado. And with his counter-terrorism team he is embroiled in a series of killings involving a militia group, a rogue ex-Special Forces officer, a psychopathic ex-CIA contract mercenary, and ruthless drug runners.

From the streets of Boulder, to the highest railroad tunnel in the world, to a swingers club hiding in plain site in suburbia, Afghanistan starts to look pretty good to Chase.

About the Author

NY Times bestselling author Bob Mayer has had over 50 books published. He has sold over four million books, and is in demand as a team-building, life-changing, and leadership speaker and consultant for his Who Dares Wins: The Green Beret Way concept, which he translated into Write It Forward: a holistic program teaching writers how to be authors. He is also the Co-Creator of Cool Gus Publishing, which does both eBooks and Print On Demand, so he has experience in both traditional and non-traditional publishing. His books have hit the NY Times, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal and numerous other bestseller lists. His book The Jefferson Allegiance, was released independently and reached #2 overall in sales on Nook. Bob Mayer grew up in the Bronx. After high school, he entered West Point where he learned about the history of our military and our country. During his four years at the Academy and later in the Infantry, Mayer questioned the idea of "mission over men." When he volunteered and passed selection for the Special Forces as a Green Beret, he felt more at ease where the men were more important than the mission. Mayer's obsession with mythology and his vast knowledge of the military and Special Forces, mixed with his strong desire to learn from history, is the foundation for his science fiction series Atlantis, Area 51 and Psychic Warrior. Mayer is a master at blending elements of truth into all of his thrillers, leaving the reader questioning what is real and what isn't. He took this same passion and created thrillers based in fact and riddled with possibilities. His unique background in the Special Forces gives the reader a sense of authenticity and creates a reality that makes the reader wonder where fact ends and fiction begins. In his historical fiction novels, Mayer blends actual events with fictional characters. He doesn't change history, but instead changes how history came into being. Mayer's military background, coupled with his deep desire to understand the past and how it affects our future, gives his writing a rich flavor not to be missed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Murder and the militia 16 Oct. 2011
By Cheryl M-M TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
Good to see that the author has worked on his dialogue, which I found restrained in his book Duty, Honor, Country, A Novel of West Point to The Civil War. I enjoyed his references to numerous weapons, government agencies and historical war scenarios. Indeed his in depth descriptions of war tactics and experiences of soldiers and the internal conflict of government vs the man in the field, gave a great insight into the man behind the story. The book has two storylines, which run alongside each other with the main character Chase in the middle of both. he is trying to solve the murder of a wealthy doctors wife and keep track of a militia group. Switching from one story to another seemed a little awkward at times and could do with some extra groundwork to make it flow better. The dialogue between Chase and Sylvie was too barren and lacked enough emotion, and yes I am aware that both are restricted in their emotions, but they need to connect on paper a little better. The one thing I do think the writer should change is the paragraph that eludes to the victim and her contracting HIV from clients. Quote -I don't think she would have had to worry about gay men for clients-, I worry that that is an antiquated view of contraction, because that is just one of many high risk groups. I enjoyed the story. I received a free copy of this book for my review.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing and clichéd 2 Aug. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found this book to be a big disappointment. The characters where the clichés of this genre; solitary, baggage carrying, difficult to form relationships, self sufficient, deadly in unarmed encounters as well as armed encounters etc. etc. etc. The story was barely plausible, contrived and full of holes. This was the first Black Ops that I have read and it will be the last

3.0 out of 5 stars See if you can slolve the plot? 5 Mar. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've not come across this author before and enjoyed the pace of this book.
There was one point where I was convinced that I had a plausable answer relating to the victim's life style and why she was killed.
I got it totally wrong. So theres the credit to the author.
Enjoy.

I'm not really sure how this is related to previous 6 Green Berets Books.
I like most of the Bob Mayer's books, but this one was not what I have expected.
