“A pulsing technothriller. A nailbiter in the best tradition of adventure fiction.” Publishers Weekly.

Covert operative Horace Chase has been chasing ghosts his entire life.
First, his Medal-of-Honor winner father who died in Vietnam without ever meeting his son. And left him the legacy of an automatic appointment to the Military Academy at West Point which shaped the next thirty-five years of Chase's life. Then, the ghost of his mother, who died while he was at war in Afghanistan and wounded, causing him to resign his commission and return to the United States, a lost soul.

Chase now wears two hats as a Federal counter-terrorism liaison to the local police department in Boulder, Colorado where he becomes embroiled in two seemingly un-related cases. Working as a detective with Boulder PD he chases another death, this one the apparent rape/murder of Rachel Stevens, an upscale housewife attending night classes at the University of Colorado. And with his counter-terrorism team he is embroiled in a series of killings involving a militia group, a rogue ex-Special Forces officer, a psychopathic ex-CIA contract mercenary, and ruthless drug runners.

From the streets of Boulder, to the highest railroad tunnel in the world, to a swingers club hiding in plain site in suburbia, Afghanistan starts to look pretty good to Chase.

Format:Kindle Edition
Good to see that the author has worked on his dialogue, which I found restrained in his book Duty, Honor, Country, A Novel of West Point to The Civil War. I enjoyed his references to numerous weapons, government agencies and historical war scenarios. Indeed his in depth descriptions of war tactics and experiences of soldiers and the internal conflict of government vs the man in the field, gave a great insight into the man behind the story. The book has two storylines, which run alongside each other with the main character Chase in the middle of both. he is trying to solve the murder of a wealthy doctors wife and keep track of a militia group. Switching from one story to another seemed a little awkward at times and could do with some extra groundwork to make it flow better. The dialogue between Chase and Sylvie was too barren and lacked enough emotion, and yes I am aware that both are restricted in their emotions, but they need to connect on paper a little better. The one thing I do think the writer should change is the paragraph that eludes to the victim and her contracting HIV from clients. Quote -I don't think she would have had to worry about gay men for clients-, I worry that that is an antiquated view of contraction, because that is just one of many high risk groups. I enjoyed the story. I received a free copy of this book for my review.

I've not come across this author before and enjoyed the pace of this book.
There was one point where I was convinced that I had a plausable answer relating to the victim's life style and why she was killed.
I got it totally wrong. So theres the credit to the author.
Enjoy.

Disappointing 17 April 2012

Poorly written and far fetched I didn't enjoy this at all. The plot seems to have come from a "Boy's Own" comic and frankly is unbelievable. It was free, so I can't complain but would have been very disappointed if I had to pay for it.
