Book Description

16 Oct 2008
This inspiring and true adventure story is about the author and her husband’s journey to find beauty and meaning on the little known Island of Lefkas. The realistic descriptions of the people and places in the evocatively Greek environment take you right there with them, sharing in this heart-warming venture. The text moves along at a comfortable pace, and the prose is vivid and full of memorable images that contrast the Island’s beauty with their traveling hardships. Follow them on their journey and find out if they found the secret of true happiness, or were they merely chasing dreams? Note from the author: I wrote this book because I wanted to share some unforgettable experiences with other dreamers who might not have had the opportunity to 'opt out of the rat race' the way my husband, Tony and I did in 1991. It was a way out of a depressing situation when Tony was made redundant shortly before his 50th birthday. When you have reached rock bottom there is nowhere else to go, but up. When you lose all material things sometimes if you are determined you can overcome all difficulties, but you have to have a dream and follow it. Then you can gain so much more. Because we live in a pre-planned society rare opportunities are often missed. It is only when we look back we wonder why we never saw them at the time. Why did we hesitate? Why did we lose our dreams? Maybe in the great scheme of things there is a reason for everything. Maybe the drastic change in our circumstances was an opportunity for us to find our dream and have the adventure of a lifetime... This is what I want to share in the hope that it will help people in today's economic crisis to take on a challenge, to find a dream and do something that they might never have done. Then they can look back and say, "I'm glad we had that recession."

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful 24 Feb 2013
By sos
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is badly written, and a waste of money. I believe a lot of the 4 and 5 star reviews to be fake. My own review written after I had read the book a while ago disappeared without any explanation. There is some funny business going on here.

A bit slow shame I was looking toward to reading as I have been to lefkas many times although it did capture the laid back culture of the island. A bit dated I would say.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good read...but.. 7 Aug 2012

As a true story it was good, and the authors did well in describing the places and peoples they met. For anyone that has been to Greece and its Island (and not as a package tourist), you will share the reality of Greek hospitality and friendship.
The 'but' I had to add, as I thought some of the narrative was very simplistic and in my opinion not needed, but that just my personal opinion.

To have done what they did took some guts in the first place and yes, maybe they were naive......so what, dont think I could have done it and they will be the richer for it.

Must admit reading the part where they left brought back a lot of memories of similar Greek departures and leaving behind people you got to know and like - very powerful.

All in all a good read, narrative could have been punchier, but thats just the way I would have preferred it. Others will disagree.

Chasing Dreams in Lefkas was brilliant, having been there myself many times before, it brought back happy memories for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Holiday reminder read?
I like these little Greek sagas as they take me back to places I have visited in the past. It's not so good if you then decide to go back as the paces have changed too much!

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather pedantic
I found the book repetitive and the language used rather simplistic. I was unconvinced that the citizens of Lefkas were as enthusiastic about the enterprise as was described
