Book Description

6 May 2013
Bursting on to the music scene in the 70s, Chas 'n' Dave released songs that spoke about life in London; they wanted to be themselves and sing about things they knew about in their own voices. Some people perceived it as a gimmick but thirty-odd years later, thousands flocked across the fields of Glastonbury to witness an unforgettable gig. Some gimmick. With hits like 'Gertcha', 'Rabbit', 'The Sideboard Song', 'Margate' and the achingly beautiful 'No Pleasin' You', they created a sound that was uniquely Chas and Dave - and rockin' to boot. What most people don't know is that both Chas and Dave had previous careers: Dave playing in London country bands, touring as a session musician and touring America with Mick Greenwood; Chas touring as bass player to Jerry Lee Lewis (who helped Chas learn piano) and Gene Vincent. Chas was even a band member of the Beatles for one brief moment in time. Chas' hilarious account of what he got up to before he knew Dave is a must-read for every fan. If you've ever wondered what makes the legendary duo tick (or which one is bloody which!) then this is the book for you!

Dave is wonderful! If you could make up Dave's background and history, you would want it to read just like this. An incredibly talented musician and songwriter who has played with some of the world's greatest - and earned the respect of them all. He makes the music he wants to make. The parental advisory sticker on the front isn't a joke! He tells it like it is, using the language he uses everyday. Not for the easily offended!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Chas & Chas with a bit of Dave. 5 Feb 2009
Format:Hardcover
I thought this would be about both of them, it was a great read but the word "I" appears more in this book then any other I have read. It is a very good tale about Chas. It could really do with a bit more about his partner/s. As a "Cockney" meself I appreciate the pictures he paints. As a story teller who writes great "Story" songs I expected better. Worth the price "Just"

4.0 out of 5 stars Warts and all. 4 Feb 2010

Chas had a book out a few years back. This one includes that one,and follows on and updates it. It has more pictures and makes great reading for any fans of the duo or any fans of the music from the 6o's onwards.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Read it in one sitting, interesting the switches between the different groups in the 60/70's. But probably written with a view to ensure no one was upset by any comments. Read more

I purchased this on a bit of a whim, and I am so glad I did. Of course I knew the music and have bought a few of them, but would not consider myself a big fan. Read more
