Book Description

This first collection of Pet Tales, compiled by Life editor Anne Cuthbertson, features a talking dog and a surfboarding cat, a chicken that thinks it's human, a foul-tempered duck called Mussolini, a bear called Tina, and an escaped cornsnake who may still be at large under the floorboards.

Readers will adore the cast of quirky, sympathetic, heroic and adorable characters, including Lovable Rogues, Timid Souls, Hunters and Gatherers, Escape Artists, Givers of Joy and Dearly Departed.

With a foreword by the dog-lover, television presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle, this heart-warming, hilarious and at times heart-breaking book is a must for anyone who has ever loved a pet.

The Pet Tales column of the Sunday Telegraph launched in 2010, giving readers the opportunity to send in their own stories and pictures. It quickly developed a devoted following with close to a thousand submissions to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Reading! 14 Feb. 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I have always been charmed by the 'Pet Tales' column in the Sunday Telegraph, where readers submit a picture of their pet and say what they are or were like, together with their likes, dislikes and finest hour.

Imagine having a whole book full of these stories from ordinary readers. Their pets are not only cats and dogs, but snakes, ducks on tortoises. All have their own personality.

I have bought a book also for my friend in America, who loves pets. She will have quite a treat.

I urge you to buy this for yourself; an ideal gift for anyone also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Both humerous and moving 23 Feb. 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is one of the best animal tale books I have read for recently. The fact that the letters have been written by owners who so obviously love or have loved their pets shines through. There may have been some very embarrassing incidents but all is forgiven.

Great fun stories of really interesting pets!
The vignettes are just long enough and raise a smile (wry on occasion) every time.
Super reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Pet Tales 8 Jan. 2014
By Pen
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I gave this to my 91 year old Mother for Christmas but first of all I had to look at it myself, having read the weekly column in the Sunday Telegraph. It's such a great book and one you can put down and start again without any difficulty as the tales are all short. Some stories are really funny, some sad, but most of them very entertaining and I recommend it as a very good light read specially if you love animals like me.
