I'm a Christian who thoroughly enjoys the Harry Potter stories on many levels, and this book, written by the Principal of Trinity College, Bristol, is like a breath of fresh air. It's very easy to read and does a convincing job in demolishing the argument that the Harry Potter books are an evil influence and will encourage children to dabble in the occult. Joanne Rowling has created an enthralling fictional world where "magic" is normal and human qualities of love, courage and loyalty are all-important. Bridger perceives this as a moral universe which has much to say about ethics and values to all its readers, whatever their ages. He also places it in a long tradition of literature which has magical elements - from Shakespeare to Tolkien. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to everyone who wants to delve a little more deeply into the Harry Potter experience.
