Book Description

22 Aug 2006
Sprinkled with pearls, hearts, stars and gemstones full of symbolism, a charm bracelet is the ultimate in meaningful jewellery. Following the development of modern jewellery-making methods that do not require soldering, and the craze for customizing that has brought a cornucopia of contemporary charms to the market, the new jeweller now has the chance to make long-lasting, pretty, high-quality pieces at home. In her first book, accomplished contemporary jeweller Gabriella Sellors shows you how to design and create your own beautiful pieces using a wide variety of inexpensive materials and charms, such as faux pearls, freshwater coloured pearls, glass, semi-precious stones, and silver and gold charms. Gabriella begins with a glossary of charms and their meanings, and also provides a masterclass in creating and designing charms, showing you which materials work best with each other and which set each off. The main projects feature 50 designs for charm bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings, as well as bag and mobile phone charms. Through chapters 'Protection and Healing', 'Love', 'Zodiac' and 'Colour', she shows you how to create charms for every occasion - charms for friendship, birthstone charms for birthdays and semi-precious charms for protection against negative energy. She also makes use of new charms on the market to personalize gifts for friends and family - a fairy charm for a friend's safety while travelling, handbag and shoe charms for your shopping-mad friend, and a series of symbolic flower charms for a bouquet of bridal charms. Including ethnic charms from the Orient, such as jade, coins, amber and the characters for love, hope, peace and joy, as well as designs for the traditional Western celebrations of anniversaries, holidays, coming of age and friendship, the book is a compendium of practical advice and inspiration for you to create unique pieces of lasting beauty. It features 50 stunning unique jewellery designs suitable for every occasion. Projects can be created with a minimum of fuss and equipment. It includes professional hints and style suggestions. It is illustrated with specially commissioned photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little book 10 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've bought many books on jewellery making, most of which sounded great, but are generally a let down, leaving me to wonder why I ever bother buying them!

However, I personally found this little book fantastic on many levels.

It has some designs that are good, and a little more unusual that the usual run of the mill beading book designs.. and although I'm a full-time Jewellery maker, I actually found some of the how to sections at the back really inspiring.

The key thing is about this book that it is really inspiring, it's enjoyable to look at over and over again, the designs are interesting but will also open a world of ideas for you once you've looked at them - so I find myself frequently returning to this book, generally for a little creative invigoration!

One of the best I've ever bought - and I've bought far too many... Worth every penny, suitable for for both beginners and seasoned makers - I am sure you will enjoy this book and find it worth every single penny.

Enjoy and be inspired!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little book! 22 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
As an experienced jewellery maker I am always looking for new inspiration and this little book was exactly that. It contains lots of useful information on the history of charms and their meaning and is filled with lovely photos. There is a section at the back to help guide the less experienced crafter and details of what you will need for each project. Don't be put off by the fact that the designs are all made in silver because you can substitute other, cheaper metals if your budget is small. In fact I would recommend practising with cheaper metals first so that you don't waste expensive materials.

To sum up - a nice little book that has inspired me to try some new things.
