Really enjoyed this book. From page one to the end. Having said that I got the feeling that maybe a sequel is coming ?.
Mason Dixon (Yolanda Wallace) writes a well written story that leaves this reader wanting more.
A well deserved 5+. But that's my opinion remember.

An Exciting Novel set on the mean streets of Baltimore 2 Sep 2014
By RLynne - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Author Dixon introduces Raq, a fighter who works for Ice Taylor. Ice is the drug lord who rules the section of Baltimore where Raq lives. Raq lives alone in a 400 sq. ft. apartment, and is happy to get money for winning underground boxing matches. She is very excited when a new woman starts working out at the gym where she trains. Bathsheba is lovely to look at and has "mad talent with her fists". Unfortunately, Bathsheba is an undercover cop who is trying to put Ice Taylor and his thugs in prison.
Dixon does a great job in developing the characters of Raq and Bathsheba, as well as their growing friendship. She surrounds her two principals with strong side characters, both good guys and bad. She does a particularly good job of showing the lack of choices her characters have, as well as how Ice Taylor is able to gain power over them. She also shows how Bathsheba is able to stay in touch with her contact, and the pressure he is under to wrap up this job.
Dixon builds tension and strain to a fine point before giving her readers a dramatic ending which had me griped right up to the final words! Charm City is a great read from an award winning author!

Rushed ending 31 Aug 2014

Charm City for the most part was an entertaining, light read. My particular issue with it was the rushed ending. These characters have been developed really well and then suddenly the story gets wound up really quickly which then comes across as quite contrived. Not very happy at all with this.
entertaining but sudden 6 Oct 2014
By Cary - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
When I opened this book, I learned it was written by Yolanda Wallace. I remembered reading and liking her book, A Month of Sundays, so I was glad. That book took us into the world of a celebrity chef; this book takes us into the world of drug-dealing and underground boxing. I found it entertaining, but didn't really get the sudden depth of connection between the two main characters, which was a little hasty.

So I found the principal protagonist pretty interesting. In many ways this is an arch typical story. This is not a bad thing. The characters are themselves unique and interesting. I felt quite sympathetic with them by the end (not that they started out unsympathetic) , there's some heavy stuff here.
Nice trip to the 'hood 24 Sep 2014

This was a fun read, despite the violence of the drug dealing and ruthless kingpin. Great lead character and blossoming love, rich in detail as the story builds and progresses.Nicely written and good flow.
