Agree with the reviewers of this on (see theirs for more details) this is energetic, guitar and synth driven 80's up tempo rock that I really enjoyed. A bit different to earlier effort "No Second Chance" which sounded a little more sophisticated, even at times a little like Supertramp possibly, but this is a good listen for fans of the 80's style of commercial rock music. I've only got three of theirs including the previously mentioned and the release before this "Here Comes Trouble" which is pretty commercial stuff also, but not quite as good as this. Check out the song This Time and see if you don't find a similarity to Steve Winwood's "If You See A Chance", but still a great song in its own right. I had no idea they had so many albums out so looking forward to one day owning more.
Footnote: I think the track listing on Amazon uk is incorrect for this album unless its some kind of different release.

An album of their's I hadn't litened to before now! 23 April 2010

Okay I'll admit it, I'm biased when it comes to the 80's, I like the music from this era. In fact after listening to what stands for today's "popular music" its hard for me not to feel nostalgic about that musical time period going on 30 years now. I say all this because Charlie's self titled album (CD) was originally released in 1983. Unfortunately it didn't generate much in the way of sales and is viewed as a flop, commercially speaking even back then.
But this CD is a great listen to from start to finish. Each song is better then the last. In fact there are a couple of songs on the CD that easily could have gone on to be actual mega hits were it not for the complete lack of album promotion. Marketing or in this case, the lack thereof, doomed the group's self titled effort to obscurity. Only the groups immediate fans went out and bought the release. And herein lies the shame of it all because this release "COULD" have been a monster seller for the band had it been marketed properly. One song, the lead off track, "It's Inevitable" was made into a video for MTV and it did get a fair amount of air time. But what the band needed was radio airplay and it didn't receive any. All the songs on here are fun to listen to. My personal faves include "Spend my life with you & Never to late" but quite honestly every song on here is a winner. The songs themselves feel just like a well tailored Armani suit, they feel that good. Song lyric's are clear and easy on the ears as well as some good guitar riffs as well. But because its the 80's there are a number of requisite synthesizer plays through out. You can't really blame the band for this after all it was the 80's were talking about here and the synthesizer was a popular instrument back then. I just thought you'd appreciate the "heads up" regarding this that's all.
So although the sound is dated (80's) the music contained on this CD is much better then many of the more popular, better marketed releases of this time period. If you find yourself feeling a bit nostalgic for the good old days of the 1980's and these days who doesn't, you might want to give this CD a spin. If you like what you hear you'll be pleased to know that Charlie, the band has a whole lot more for you to listen to. Please allow me to introduce you to your new favorite band that up to now you never heard of. Enjoy!

Oldie but Goodie! 22 May 2009

I loved this album when it came out back in the early 80's; it's still awesome. Thanks so much for having it available on CD.
Good songs with dated 80's production 20 July 2014

Well-written songs, but the singer, while technically better than main songwriter Terry Thomas, is indistinguishable from many other generic singers of the early 80's. Better to seek the earlier No Second Chance or Lines albums with Thomas singing, while less technically adept he inhabits the songs better. "It's Inevitable" was the surprise hit single and MTV video, but the dated early 80's production touches don't help this album age well. Still, the songs are good.
A Very Good Release, that could be labeled, "The BEST of the Eighties!" 10 Mar. 2013

This 1983 release, simply titled Charlie, IS typical Charlie on one hand, and the 1980's style of rock on the other. It's not disappointing by any means. They take the hard driving rock style from this time period and make it their own with their signature unsurpassed harmonies and synthesizers, giving it the sound that only Charlie can! Charlie simply blows away Loverboy, Metallica, Christopher Cross, Asia, Alan Parsons Project, Huey Lewis and other bands from this time frame. That's just MY opinion. Treat yourself to the best the 1980's has to offer!
