I've never seen a toy take so many AA batteries (8, thankfully supplied), and like a previous reviewer I was concerned that you have to use a screwdriver to dismantle the unit to clean it.

That aside, it takes nearly 10 minutes to heat up the unit, then another 3 to melt an amount of chocolate that will only fill 1.5 of the moulds... cue waiting another 3 minutes for next batch, and so on ad infinitum, or until you have eaten too many chocolate chips while waiting and feel sick. The children on the box look beatific, surrounded by mounds of chocolates... we managed to make 10 in about an hour.

I was left to clean up, which wasn't fun in the slightest and I had to use a toothbrush to clean out the inside of the melting chamber. The chocolate moulds are very good but next time I think I will heat chocolate in a pan and let my son spoon it directly into the moulds, thereby bypassing over an hour of tedium.

If only I had stopped to think about this properly before I bought it, instead of listening to the unsubtle hints of my daughter, then I might never have succumbed to buying this.
The idea is great. Melted chocolate can be poured into moulds to make all sorts of little chocolate shapes. However, what the blurb doesn't explain clearly until it is too late and Christmas Day has arrived and the shops are shut, is that YOU have to provide the chocolate chips that are needed. You cannot use ordinary chunks of your favourite chocolate.
The other thing that isn't made clear is that to clean the thing, you need to open it up with a screwdriver, removing four screws to clean out the inside. I don't believe any childs toy should require a screwdriver to take it apart for cleaning - this is a big NO-NO as far as I am concerned.
The other No-No is not to let your sister put chunks of your favourite chocolate into the machine. It doesn't melt. It jams up the inside, and then you spend two hours cleaning it.
So, nice idea but shame about the lack of supplies with the factory and shame about the dreadful cleaning!

Perhaps the manufacturer meant to write "Everlasting Gobstopper"? (Ignore my stars.)

NO WONKA BAR MOLD!?!? What were they thinking?!?! 19 July 2005

We're HUGE fans of 'old movies' (ie: the original Willie Wonka, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, etc) so my 4yr old son and 8 year old niece were THRILLED when I told them we were heading to Toys R US just to pick one up for the each of them.

Be prepared to have EIGHT (8) AA Batteries on hand to get this thing going and A LOT of chocolate chips!! We almost used an entire bag of chocolate chips to fill all four trays (each tray has 4 small molds). We used it for the first time tonight and after filling the THIRD tray, the 'melting pot' part jammed with hardened chocolate chips - like the chocolate hadn't melted or something?? (our batteries were new AND we had waited the suggested 3 minutes for the chips to melt). So we turned it off then on and waited around again for it to heat up then melt the chips.

My biggest complaint (besides it jamming on the first use) is that it DOES NOT have a mold for the original WONKA BARS!?! What the heck were they thinking?!? A Wonka Chocolate factory with NO Wonka Bar?!? GRANTED the picture doesn't indicate that it does but I bought it thinking they SURELY HAD to include a Wonka Bar mold, right?? WRONG!!! I remember that the OLD (original) ones had Wonka Bar molds and some wrappers to wrap them in - this new version has NOTHING like it. Just candy molds for small chocolate candies...Wonka hat, a "W", mushroom, heart, etc...some plastic lollipop canes to place in the molds, a spoon & spatula and of course, the factory. The kids still had fun pretending to be Willie Wonka and 'make chocolate' but you could save some money by buying a $2.00 candy mold and melting your chocolate chips in your fondue pot or in your microwave oven and having the songs or movie playing in the background.

Considering that I bought two of them, there is no Wonka Bar mold, it requires A LOT of batteries, it jammed on the first usage and the cheap plastic parts (that will probably get broken or lost)...I think my money could have been better spent on another toy and regret buying it. $30.00 and some change down the drain!!!
