Little Known Vietnam War Movie,
By
This review is from: 84 Charlie Mopic [DVD] [1989] (DVD)
This is a little Known war film set in the Jungles of Vietnam. We follow a platoon of soldiers as they trek through the jungle with a cameraman, with orders to help him film footage that will help in the training of other soldiers before they're sent over. It's shot in the same through-the-camera style as Blair Witch and Cloverfield, but was made years before they were.
It's an excellent film that was made for a tiny amount of money. If you like war films, then you should see this, as it's different and refreshing. Highly recommended.

An interesting take on the war film genre,

This review is from: 84 Charlie Mopic [DVD] [1989] (DVD)
The above reviewer has said it all really - although I don't agree with his 5 star rating, I do agree with his opnions.
This film is a refreshingly different take (no cameraman pun intended) on the war film genre. It feels low budget but not in a bad way. Some of the acting's a little hammy by todays standard, but nothing too bad, and I think that's more to do with when this film was made rather than the actors being genuinly bad - we just expect more and do things in a different way nowdays. The story centres around a small platoon of soldiers sent out on a mission - with them is a new recruit from the Army's propaganda unit, nicked named 'MoPic', (because of his alphanumeric military occupational speciality, 84C20, motion picture specialist) who's been sent to document the whole thing. What unfolds is a story that will offer fans of war films, and Vietnam wars film in particular, an imaginative way of telling us something we all ready know (war - HUH! - what is it good for?)and has been explored by cinema a thousand times. I had a clear out of all my old DVDs the other day, and took about 50 to my local exchange (just making space, it's no reflection on this film) and this DVD was amongst them - they informed my they couldn't buy it (something to do with the barcode) and to be honest I was quite glad, as I'd ummed and arghed about putting it in the 'out' pile to begin with. I don't know, maybe that little story means something or proves some sort of point - that this is an OK film, I guess... It's hard to think of what to add to the above review as he's covered everything really. Perhaps not one to buy if you only by a few DVDs, but definately one to buy if you're really into film or are a fan of war flicks and want something a little unique. A fine effort. If this review helped you at all - please give it the thumbs up. And if not comment on why so I can do a better job for you next time. Thanks :-)
