4.0 out of 5 stars For children who love animals, 24 April 2007
By R. Bowes (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having read the first title in the series, Honey the unwanted puppy, and enjoyed it, we bought this for our son's sixth birthday. He loves the cute picture of Charlie on the front and takes the book to bed with him.

Eva and her older brother Karl live with their parents at Animal Magic, a rescue centre. Eva helps to look after all the animals, but when soccer star Jake Adams cancels his appearance at their open day she and her brother go to his house to find out why. They find Charlie the kitten all alone and bring him back to Animal Magic. They then try to find out what has happened to Jake and why Charlie was left alone. Eva solves the mystery in the end and all ends happily.

The story maintains interest throughout the book, (there is an ongoing subplot about some neighbours who want to close down the rescue centre) and there are illustrations every two or three pages.

Chapters are short enough to read aloud to a child from four or five and my six year-old (a good reader) is starting to have a go at reading some himself.
