Product Description

The Rolling Stones Charlie is my Darling – Ireland 1965 Super Deluxe Box Set includes both DVD and Blu-ray discs that incorporate the new, official 2012 version of the film as well as the director’s cut and producer’s cut, plus significant unseen additional performance and other footage shot in Dublin and Belfast in September of 1965, bonus content, two audio CDs, one of which is the film’s soundtrack album and the other a compilation of 13 live recordings the band made over the course of their 1965 UK tour. A 10” vinyl record of the live material is also part of the package, as well as a replica poster heralding the September 4, 1965 date they played in Belfast.

The Super Deluxe box is housed in an ingeniously designed luxurious “soft touch” package, each featuring one of over 200 Limited Edition numbered and enlarged cells randomly inserted from the film. There is also a stunning 42 page Collector’s Edition hardcover book that includes 14 never before seen, and painstakingly restored exclusive, photographs, including the key art, of the band from the Irish Photo Archive/Lensmen Photo Archive as well as colour photos taken by Marc Sharatt, the Stones’ tour photographer.

Reprints of vintage newspaper and magazine articles from the UK and Irish press that offer accounts of the dates and attendant mayhem are included, as are essays from American rock journalist and Rolling Stone Magazine staffer David Fricke and GRAMMY® and Academy Award® winning Irish singer/songwriter/actor Glen Hansard. A featured recollection from Reverend Donor Macneice, who was recently located living in Thailand and whose attendance at the ’65 Belfast show nearly cost him his job after he was spotted on the local news, is also part of the package.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Fading Away 27 Nov 2012
By Richard Allen TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
The best thing about the Stones' recent anniversary is the release of so much material from their past. This film of their '65 tour of Ireland put me in mind of Pennebaker's Dylan film of the same period, Don't Look Back. Whilst nowhere near such an important document, this is nevertheless an interesting record of the Stones at their early peak. We follow them around Ireland, chatting between gigs and performing on stage. All the concert material is simply shot and cut with scenes of their fans. The standout track is a blistering Satisfaction. Much of the intervening material is of the guys fooling around, and not hugely revealing. There is, however, a fascinating insight into Jagger and Richards' songwriting technique. Jagger himself is remarkably insightful for a young man. All the others have their own comments on their recent fame. The material of Brian Jones, seemingly happy and well, is particuarly touching, bearing in mind the decline and death that is only a few years away.

Some of the best of this material is to be found in their recent Corssfire Hurricane documentary. Whilst this isn't such an important and thorough document of the band, there's much here for the fan to enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yesterday's papers 16 Dec 2012
Format:DVD
A first class, fly on the wall documentary of the early- un -reconstruted Stones tour of Ireland. This period snippet allows the viewer a insight into the dynamics of the band and the early Jagger/Richards partnership. It highlights how Andrew Loog Oldham marketed the band as outlaws and rebels. All the band members are erudite in their comments and able to recognise the transcient nature of popular culture. Charlie remains detached throughout and both he and Jones share a dislike of the showbiz elements of being in a pop band , screamed at by teenage girls, so much so that the music is drowned out.
You also get to see the real Mick Jagger, very aware of the position he holds and the changing times he represents.

This is a must if you are after a cultural representations of 1960s culture and the emergence of a cultural challenge to the establishment of the day.
Apart from Gimme Shelter this is the only other true significant reflection of the true nature of the band. A must for any one interested in the band and the cultural shifts which changed society back in 1965.
