Amazon.co.uk Review

For the first time in a decade, Willy Wonka, the reclusive and eccentric chocolate maker, is opening his doors to the public--well, five members of the public, actually. The lucky five who find a Golden Ticket in their Wonka bars will receive a private tour of the factory, given by Mr Wonka himself. For young Charlie Bucket, this a dream come true. So when he finds a dollar bill in the street, he can't help but buy two Wonka's Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delights--even though his impoverished family could certainly use the extra dollar for food. But as Charlie unwraps the second chocolate bar, he sees the glimmer of gold just under the wrapper. The very next day, Charlie, along with his unworthy fellow winners Mike Teavee, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde and Augustus Gloop, steps through the factory gates to discover whether or not the rumours surrounding the Chocolate Factory and its mysterious owner are true. What they find is that the gossip can't compare to the extraordinary truth, and for Charlie, life will never be the same again. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: another unforgettable masterpiece from the legendary Roald Dahl, never fails to delight, thrill and utterly captivate. (Ages 9 to 12) --Susan Harrison

For the first time in a decade, Willy Wonka, the reclusive and eccentric chocolate maker, is opening his doors to the public--well, five members of the public to be exact. chocolate heaven 19 Sep 2009
Format:Audio CD
My 2 boys, aged 5 and 6, loved listening to this and it kept them very quiet in the car for longer than expected. They have listened to it again and again since they got it and don't seem to be bored yet!

Well Worth Reading 21 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
Story Summary: A poor boy wins a chance to visit a mysterious and magical chocolate factory along with four other children. Strange things happen to the children as they tour the factory and their bad behavior gets the better of them!

My Opinion: There was an old movie made of this book and I didn't like it as a kid so I didn't think I'd like the book. However, after reading "The Witches", I thought I should take a look at Charlie. It was actually pretty cool. It wasn't as good as "The Witches", but a different sort of fun. Roald Dahl has such a crazy imagination! So many strange and funny things happen in the book. I laughed a lot and I found the ideas very interesting. Imagine, for example, that all four of your grandparents slept in the same bedroom of your house and never left their beds. How funny!

What did I learn from the story?

Roald Dahl tries to teach us something about good and bad with the five children in this book. For example, Veruca Salt is very spoiled. I think we can all relate to knowing children who are spoiled and most of the time we either just don't like them or we are jealous of them. It is interesting for me to remember what it was like to be a child and to remember a child's perspective on what is good and bad. Again, I can't wait to share this book with my young son. I wonder what parts will make him laugh. I wonder what he will think of the characters.

This is a great book and well worth reading. Good fun!

A great book. 19 Jan 2000

Format:Paperback
I chose this book because someone told me it was good.My favourite person is Charlie.it is about a poor family who find some money and buy a chocolate bar and win a golden ticket. It makes me feel that nothing is impossible.I also like the Grandparents. When I picked the book up I thought that my friend was wrong because the cover was quiet dull but I went with my friend and read the blurb. And it was good so I started reading it and I found it good. My favourite bit is where they are all waiting outside then suddenly Willy Wonker comes out and the children go in.
