Hits its stride once we get to the story actually written by Simon Brett, and some of his dialogue. I'd forgotten that the radio drama versions turned Frances into a shrew (the lovely Suzanne Burden should be ashamed). The story, probably written in the early 80s when corporate "videos" were a Thing, has been winched painfully into the 21st century, strewing modern technology over every surface. A young girl with aspirations is carefully given modern Botox and fillers (I wonder what the original markers were? Must reread the book.), and her conversation is a compendium of irritating yoofspeak inserted by someone who has done a morning's research on the Urban Dictionary. Why oh why don't the adapters just leave the stories in the era when they were written (they would with Agatha Christie, for example). Bill Nighy is as perfect as ever. "Do I look like I belong to the demographic that would enjoy Kung Fu Panda?" Isn't that an injoke? I'm sure he starred in it. (Must reread the book.)

I have all these stories and they are a little formulaic but so well done, so well acted, they are gems and I have listened to them more than once and will over the years listen again. That makes them a great buy. Bill Nighy is the tarnished Knight in tarnished whiskey coloured armour. he cannot say no to a lady in distress or to the offer of a fine single malt. He can't say no to a drink full stop. He is an actor whose life would make a great play but would need someone else to play him. he is hopeless and endearing and with the curiosity of a Sherlock Holmes. He is grand. Just ask his ex wife, don't ask his agent. great performances throughout. A good listen.

The BBC's Charles Paris Mysteries are a real treat. The stories are always entertaining but it's the humour and the wonderful performance of out of work actor Bill Nighy and his long suffering(divorced) wife and agent that makes them such a treat. WHY HAS THE BBC NOT TURNED THEM INTO A TV SERIES? WHY?

When your are used to the French Audiolib version ( a book being read to you by one person) it is very strange to hear several voices. But after a few minutes you get used to it and the story really gets you. It will not be the last Charles Paris I have bought.

I don't know what it is about the dramatisations of the Charles Paris mysteries, unless it's simply the spell that Bill Nighy casts over everything he does, but I find them completely irresistible. This one is well up to the usual standard.

Enjoyed Bill Nighy as this character and his long suffering wife Francis. Where does he get his ring tones from?

Just got the CD, but haven't stopped listening, it's so funny, even if murder is on the cards.

OK but lacks some of the snappy one liner repartee that some of the other plays have.
