Christopher Lee: A Musical Journey

Sir Christopher’s ultimate love of fantasy has taken him into a new journey in the last decade. It all started when he was asked to appear in the role of The Wizard King for Rhapsody of Fire’s album ‘Symphony of Enchanted Lands II: The Dark Secret’ (2004). That was then followed by ‘Triumph of Agony’ (2006), ... Read more in Amazon's Christopher Lee Store

Legendary actor Christopher Lee, who has appeared in such cinematic milestones as Lord Of The Rings , Star Wars , The Man With The Golden Gun and Dracula amongst many others, is releasing the Heavy Metal album Charlemagne: The Omens Of Death on 25th May 2013. The singer-actor s first solo affair into the metal genre was the critically acclaimed album, Charlemagne: By the Sword and the Cross (2010), which was more symphonic than its successor. The Omens of Death, signifies his move into full on Heavy Metal. In an interview with Jamie Stangroom for BBC Radio 5 live Up All Night he said: I was first introduced to metal when I sang with a [band] called RHAPSODY, he said. But what I sang was not heavy metal; I sang with a tenor. Then I worked with MANOWAR as a narrator, I think it was in Germany, and again, that was not me singing metal. I became rather fascinated by this, cause in terms of history of music, it s fairly recent, really. And if it s properly done and you can understand the story and you can understand what the people are singing and you have the right bands and the right singers, I think it s rather exciting. When I was approached to do the first Charlemagne album, By The Sword And The Cross , it is heavy metal, of course, but what I sang was more symphonic. Now on the second one, The Omens Of Death , it is 100 percent heavy metal. I ve done my bits and pieces, and they are heavy metal. I m not screaming or anything like that, but it is definitely 100 percent heavy metal. Lee also spoke about being presented with the Spirit Of Hammer prize by BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi at Metal Hammer magazine s Golden Gods awards in London in June 2010, Lee said, It was a most amazing occasion for me very exciting and something I d never had happen to me my whole career, my whole life, in terms of awards, he said. I have received quite a few. But I was interviewed, actually in this room, by Tony Iommi, who founded BLACK SABBATH. And I hadn t heard them, but I made it a point [to do so]. [And] I thought it was extraordinary. And then I went to O2 [in London] in front of a fairly large crowd, I would say, all, of course, very young. And I got a greeting, which was really quite amazing. The decibel level was very high. Very high, very high. The music was arranged by Ritchie Faulkner, now the lead guitarist at Judas Priest. In an interview with Peter Hodgson at Guitar Talk, he said: Yeah, that was a really interesting project to work on. Sir Christopher s team sent me some songs that were very orchestral and symphony-based and asked me to arrange them into metal songs. Most of the songs were already there, but they needed riffs, drum parts and musical parts that reflected what the guys wanted which was a metal record with an aim to be played live by a band. The team and Sir Christopher were great and they gave me a free creative reign really for any ideas I felt the songs needed. Some of the tracks didn t have any music at all and were just Sir Christopher singing his melodies. I remember how surreal it was sitting in my place at the time with Saruman blasting out over the speakers! I ve no idea what the neighbors thought!. The album features Guitar Idol Champion Hedras Ramos Jr, who takes over the lead guitar duties from Richie Faulkner.Singers: Christopher Lee as Charlemagne (Ghost) Vincent Richiardi as Young Charlemagne / Phil S.P as Pippin The Short / Mauro Conti as Pope Hadrian / Lydia Salnikova as Hildegrad / Gorgon Tittsworth as Roland / Aaron Cloutier as Duke Lop Musicians: Electric Guitar: Hedras Ramos Jr. / Bass Guitar: Hedras Ramos Sr. / Drums: Ollie Usiskin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Background Music! 7 Jun 2013
Format:MP3 Download
I love this album from Christopher Lee as the classic tale has been told by him with a stubborn voice. The background music impressed me a lot and I was astonished with the Lee's voice. The story of the legendary king with superb background music of guitar and drums made me so excited. I even shared my ideas about this album with my friends. They also bought this album and heard it and they are very much impressed with the music. The cost of this album is also not too high and it is reasonable. Now I hear this album repeatedly and I admire it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing sound effects and voice! 3 Jun 2013
Format:MP3 Download
I like to hear album songs during my leisure time and I recently bought this album. I was stunned by the new music added to the classic songs. The tale has been beautifully delivered by Lee with his attractive voice and the songs are beautifully sung. The new trends in music add more credits to this album. This will be a good treat for the fans of Christopher Lee. The mind blowing guitar and drum music made me to hear the album again and again. This album will be the best gift for those who love the classic tales. It is really a worth able one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! 24 Oct 2013
By G
Format:Audio CD
He served in the Finnish army and British Secret Service in WWII, witnessed the last public guillotine execution in France, speaks 7 languages, has appeared in some 270+ movies playing Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster & The Mummy, the Man with the Golden Gun, appeared in both Lord of the Rings and Star Wars and his movies combined have grossed more than any other actor in history. He holds the world record for having appeared in more filmed sword fights than any other actor and the world record for being the tallest leading actor in a career that has spanned across 8 decades. As if that wasn't enough for even a dozen careers, let alone one, now the 91 year old Sir Christopher Lee has become the oldest lead vocalist on a Heavy Metal Album ever. You just have to admire the man!

Charlemagne: The Omens of Death marks Sir Christopher Lee's first foray into "100%" Heavy Metal. This albums predecessor, The Sword & the Cross, though certainly having its heavy moments, was more akin to a symphonic "rock opera" in which the tracks were broken up by narration of an almost audio book nature. Though it's concept and story were historically accurate and had its moments of brilliance... bad production and a lack of flow due to narration made it a difficult album to listen to if you were not in the mood or not giving it your full attention. There are no such problems with this follow up record, The Omens Of Death. It is brilliantly produced, performed and paced.

Though little more than a heavier version of its predecessor, with a few completely new tracks having been recorded (6 of the 10 tracks are redone versions of songs of the last album), it is no worse for it and it maintains your interest consistently despite half the songs being heard before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Music Mixture! 3 Jun 2013
By Klen_
Format:MP3 Download
I purchased the latest album of Christopher Lee which was admired by almost all his fans. The songs were sung in a fantastic manner and I was impressed with the new music engaged with the songs. I love to hear it again and again. The pounding drums and blistering guitars provided a lot of excitement on hearing the songs. I was stunned by the voice of Lee. This album is of top quality and I want you all to listen to the album and enjoy the classic songs with new trends of music. I like all the ten songs included in this album. I am eagerly waiting for the next album from Lee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Superb 31 May 2013
Format:Audio CD
If you enjoy the sound of classic heavy metal and Saruman blasting epic vocals, you will love this. It is what By the Sword and the Cross should have been.
