Hot Charity (1995)is viewed by some as the best Rocket album and this a compilation of Hot Charity and another EP released on vinyl only - Cut Carefully and Play Loud (1999). Copies of Hot CHarity were going for hundreds of dollars on auction sites so it is about time it was released on CD.

Pushed sets the standards early - a great instrumental with all the instruments to the fore..with the pace and melody fairly relentless from there to the brilliantly catchy My Arrows Aim - before slowing down on Feathered Friends - just breifly though. Hot Charity ended with Pity yr Paws...another standout track.

I haven't given this the full 5 stars only because of one or two of the Cut Carefully tracks though by no means bad (not many Rocket tracks are) can't reach the heights of Hot Charity...with the definite exception of Who let the snakes in?

Overall an excellent release and if there was any justice this will put them back on the map again though after the brilliant 'Group Sounds' didn't reach world domination like it should have I suspect this will remain a hidden gem as well.

Probrably the greatest Rock and Roll band in the world.
Am I biased in my opinion?
You bet your ass!
Do yourself a favour...pick this up, play loud..and rock out.

Hot Charity was the record that got me started on RFTC back in 1995. If you've heard of them and need a place to start buying then let this CD be it. The original album had 9 tracks (the first 9 here) and those alone should be reason enough to buy this CD. Some of the singles collections can be a bit hit and miss affairs but this album is pure electricity - so much so that having been the owner of it on vinyl for years I've now bought it again on CD so it can become part of my RFTC i-pod gang. To get the extra tracks too is a wonderful bonus. If you've heard John 'Speedo' Reis playing with the likes of Hot Snakes or his new band The Night Marchers then you may have some idea of what to expect - but this album shows him and the rest of RFTC (horns and all) at their firey best. Buy and re-live RFTC at their peak.
