As with all written tutorials on 3d modeling, you end up getting stuck, because you cannot replicate what is being shown in the tutorial, this is usually down to poor explanation, missed details, or software version differences.
Unfortunately the first two "tutorials" in this book suffer from the tutorial wall, it's not severe as the first one is irrelevant, but the second one you're supposed to model an eye shape using curves, loft the surface with nurbs, then convert the nurbs to polygons.
Even following the book exactly, it just doesn't come out anything like it, what's more is the convert nurbs to polygons command didn't even work, so either something was missed out, or the version difference changes the way it's meant to be done.
The rest of the book looks ok, it's well laid out and written, you can definately get something from this book if you have the tenacity to ignore the bits that just don't work out.
the quality of the work isn't exactly high, it explains at the end of the book that once you've finished you can start building your portfolio, higher level training and practice will be needed to land a job after this book.
