Product Description

Drama from first-time director J.P. Schaefer based around the murder of John Lennon in 1980. Following the events leading up to the moment Mark David Chapman (played by Jared Leto) shot the legendary singer five times in the back, the film's title is a play on JD Salinger's classic novel 'The Catcher in the Rye', which ends on chapter 26. Chapman (Jared Leto) related and modelled his life after the book's main character Holden Caulfield, and it was the book he held onto at the time he shot Lennon. Chapman claimed the book held the reasons behind the heinous act.

When hearing about Lindsay Lohan starring in a film about John Lennon's killer it would seem there was no hope. Nevertheless, one has to give this film a chance to be surprised by what appears to be an artistic approach at film making.

The film has a basic concept of following Lennon's killer and trying to display his disturbed psyche and document his actions in the days before he killed Lennon in December 1980. Leto plays Chapman very well, not only looking the part but pulling it off surprisingly well.

Lohan plays a Lennon fan and is featured in only several sequences throughout the film. One should note that at the time of filming around January 2006 it was prior to any drink/drug issues or arrests. I feel that she does give a good performance similar too if not stronger than she displayed in 'Bobby' (2006).

I would recommend the film to anyone who will be able to put aside the boycott attitude that has for some reason been placed upon it. The film in no way disrespects Lennon nor does it show his killer in a positive light. As for Lohan, she does provide a worthy performance so I see no reason why her personal issues should stop people from viewing the film.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tense. 13 April 2009
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Chapter 27 tells the true story about the murder of john lennon back in december 1980 in new york city.
We are introduced to his killer mark chapman very early on played brilliantly by jared leto who gained a significant amount of weight to perfect the role.
We are given an insight into chapmans loner type persona & his pathetic need to become as famous as his hero john lennon even if that means murdering him.
He is constantly at odds with himself as he considers murdering his idol & becomes obsessed with the book catcher in the rye.
The tension builds with every frame and it is quite uncomfortable to watch as you are aware from the start that this man will eventully cave in to his madness and murder a true musical genius & icon.
Lindsay lohan adds support as a lennon fan who hangs around the dakota building were chapman finally murdered lennon, she is fantastic as ever.
Overall a very tense, brilliantly acted reconstruction of a true tragedy that shook the world on december 8th 1980.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jared Leto gives an astonishing performance. 18 April 2008
Format:DVD
A truly remarkable film, the director managed to successfully delve into the psyche of the murderer of John Lennon, portraying his mental issues and his personal obsession incredibly well. Jared Leto plays the murderer and gives a very believable performance, his complete dedication to the role was shown throughout as he gained a great amount of weight so that he could get the correct feel for the character. I absolutely recommend this film, not only for the brilliant acting, but for the incredibly accurate representation of a killers mind.

Mark Chapman's mental collapse leads to John Lennon's death. Many critics have recognised as Jared Leto's best performance to date. Watch it.You'll not regreat it.
