Product Description

Book Description

Highly entertaining andoften hilarious story of Tony's somewhat unorthodox upbringing by a formidable yet fun-loving socialite mother. He Woosterish exploits as a young man about Mayfair in post-war London and his successful career in radio and television advertising, which started in the pioneering days. Above all, it recalls with nostalgic affection the many long, hot summer afternoon that he spent indulging his greatest and most abiding passion, cricket. His gentle, often self-deprecating sense of fun lights up every page of these star-studded memoirs.

From the Author

Since my book is taking off like the ratings for Big Brother I would like to share my success with everone who has a yen for writing:
1. Buy a clipboard and supply of A4 lined paper. 2. Settle into an armchair in front of TV with books, papers to hand (do not get formal & sit at table and chair, you will seize up. 3. Ensure you have whisky to hand and pour yourself a minimum of a double large with water or ice (or neat) 4. Find a lady (not your wife) who can type and have
her own input (but not pushy!) 5. She must understand and inperpret your unreadable writing, punctuation and spelling. 6. Do not show anything you have written to friends & especially your wife. 7. After 4th whisky write no more as if you do you will dispense with it all next morning. 8. Continue as above until finished. 9. Book is for 3 months at the printers.

I read this book in one sitting. It's a delight. Amusing anecdotes, fascinating encounters with personalities from the worlds of media and cricket all told in an easy to read, self deprecating manner.
Salisbury bridges the gap between the rich, priveleged world of his childhood in the 1930s and the explosion of the power of the media in the 1950s and 60s. He there at the launch of ITV and the inception of Capital Radio when Commercial radio began. All this is interspersed with a deep and passionate interest in the love of his life - Cricket. A good value read!
