Product Description

ChapelWood 0.3kg Rocket Niger Feeder

Niger seed is a natural tonic, particularly loved by the finch family. Bring these gorgeous garden visiting birds to your lawn in style, with the ChapelWood Rocket Niger Feeder. Chapelwood Rocket Niger Feeders are an attractive, hardwearing and practical way to attract a variety of wild birds to your garden to feed. This particular design consists of an all metal construction in a contemporary green and black colour scheme. A hardy mesh design makes this perfect for hanging birds such as finches or woodpeckers, whilst the integrated feeding tray at the rocket’s base also allows the likes of robins to feast, and means that you can use the rocket as either a hanging or a surface feeder. Capable of holding up to 0.3kg of niger seed, the Rocket Feeder is a unique way to keep the birds well-fed and well-loved.

So physically there isnt anything wrong with the product, it looks good quality etc etc.
However I've had it up for a few weeks now (knowing it sometimes takes a while for the birds to approach a new feeder), however this one has gone unused.
With black metal and black seeds it may be confusing the birds.

It may look better, but save your money and pick up a cheap plastic feeder for a couple of quid, and spend the savings on feed for the birds, or a drink for yourself!

This niger feeder is sturdy, easy to fill and looks attractive. Unfortunately ‘our’ goldfinches don’t recognise quality and won’t use the rocket feeder. I went to Wilkies and bought a cheap plastic feeder which I hung next to the rocket feeder. The goldfinches are flocking to eat from the plastic one.
Perhaps the rocket feeder need some perches attached to it.

Good price and delivery . This looks like the mesh is so fine that the niger seed will just pour through, but somehow it holds it really well. Also the mesh means that you will have be less worried about blocked feeding positions, and hopefully make it easier to clean .Just a shame that the goldfinches seem to have left the building!

Initially I said "My first goldfinches arrived when I put this up. It's easy to clean, looks nice and the seed doesn't seem to get wet as you might think it would. Sturdy, attractive, just the job."

... but I'm revising the review down to two stars now because the birds don't seem to notice it and I suspect they find it hard to get the seed out. It never empties like my other feeders do.

Much better than the plastic ones and should last much longer. The plastic filler tube makes it easier to refill.

sadly the feeder didn't work and my goldfinches completely ignored it. Birds can be very conservative about feeders and often take a long time to use them. But this one was an utter failure. I think it is the appearance that lets it down. It looks great to humans but maybe looks like a black block to birds? the niger seed is pretty invisible to the whole thing relies on birds recognising the object contains niger by its appearance. Chapelwood is a good company but I think this is more designer than useful.

On receipt, filled with seed but to date, no birds have taken any seed from it. There has been seed loss due to high winds but no birds have taken seed. It's good that it's made of metal but wish some birds would come for me to give a full evaluation.
