5.0 out of 5 stars Feeding the birds 29 Aug 2011

Arrived promptly and well packed. The bucket they came is useful too and the birds enjoy the food.
They are not in nets, as are some fatballs, and that might be an improvement.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chapelwood 50 tub Suet Balls 7 April 2011
By Anon
Previously I'd used shop bought fat and grain filled coconut shells, which I re-used filling with my own fat and grain mix. The birds loved both and ate them throughout the year. Then the squirrels discovered them. This forced me into buying a squirrel proof feeder, which required balls of some kind. I purchased these suet balls because they seemed good value for money. I was initially concerned that the birds showed no interest in them. However after a few days they met with approval and have been devoured eagerly ever since.

I opened the Amazon box to find a mass of plastic and smashed fat ball, quite disgusting and took quite some time to clear it up, and annoying to have to find another container to put the balls in.

I strongly recommend you buy fat balls from a manufacturer that doesn't use such fragile plastic tubs - the sides are thin and brittle. Amazon reasonably assume they will survive being delivered in a box, but they are far too fragile. I'm clearly not alone looking at other reviews.

Buy another make!

1.0 out of 5 stars broken container 30 Aug 2012
Verified Purchase
Can't comment on the fat balls as they had disintegrated due to the container having broken. The contents were largely mush and were fed to the chickens. They seemed to like them.

3.0 out of 5 stars bird suet balls 12 Feb 2012
Arrived promptly, but although it was packed in a huge box, the tub was cracked from top to bottom. I haven't needed to remove the lid. Was also disappointed to find a very similar product in the local garden centre for half the price; obviously i should have researched more carefully.
