I was sceptical at first, sticking to the philosophy of "quality stuff wont be sold for less".
This was changed though when I purchased this sound card for my small form factor case. I realised the measurements were slightly wrong, but I catered for this as this was MY mistake. Great sound output when I connected my Creative 5.1 speakers and I cant complain at all.
Would recommend to anyone on a budget and theory does go that a external sound card relieves the CPU of sound rendering power if you use on-board sound. up to 15% i Hear depending on your Generation CPU and you notice it at first if your a die hard user of your computer.
Great Product, Great service. Would buy again in the future

Good for linux! 21 Jan 2010
My old sound card was dying, so I needed a linux compatible replacement. It was easy to fit, and worked out of the box, My PClinuxOS system configured it automatically on the first bootup, so I didn't have to do anything. The midi port interfaces seamlessly with my Roland keyboard. I haven't been able to access the onboard wavetable, but that isn't an issue for me, as I use Timidity with a selection of soundfonts for midi playback on the computer.

The important thing determining system compatibility with sound and video cards is not the card manufacturer, but the chipset manufacturer. This card has a Cmedia CMI8738 chipset.

got me out of a jam 2 Feb 2011
pc had lost its internal sound card so replaced it with this. one thing i do find odd about this product that i can only turn the sound up to a certain setting and thats it. what i mean is that onces i turn the dial on my 5.1 surround system past 50% there is no extra volume. weird and yes i have checked and rechecked the sound system settings
