Demanding listening that rewards attention.,

This review is from: Change of Sky (Audio CD)
Wallpaper this isn't. 'A Change of Sky' is a CD that demands, and rewards, careful listening, made by two musicians who know and love their music. This is jazz stripped bare: one pianist and one singer, making music together. Their commitment to this shows us why jazz is the most influential music of today; here is the popular song made art. Nikki Iles and Tina May are in delicate and reflective mood here, exploring as a team these varied songs. The dialectic between them shows where the art of jazz lies, in the discussion and tension between the two forms and the two musicians. You are unlikely to get up and dance to this CD. But you may well sit up and ask 'Why did she do that?' and play the disc again to find out.
