I confess, I have not yet finished this book. I was prompted by Joanne's review of only 2 Stars (with no specifics) to let others know what the book is about.
This book offers a framework for understanding problems and how to get out of them. Perhaps others are looking for specific techniques. (If so see for example Bandler's book "Get the Life you Want".)
The first chapter may not be an easy read for many. It explains the model from which Watzlawick, et al, are operating. That (people) model is based on some esoteric mathematics which he explains very clearly (I think).
I will paraphrase to say he describes two Mathematics theories. The first explains how people can get stuck and not even know what other choices there are. The second explains how to generally find what other choices may be available. That is a very quick and, no doubt, inadequate explanation, but I hope it will aid you in deciding that this book can be useful to anyone who is interested in changing their life (or changes of other types, perhaps in business or technical fields).
Again, if you want simple techniques for some specific problems, this may not be the book for you.
If you want a different perspective on problems, one that is useful to leave problems behind instead of mulling them over, get this book now.
PS - I first got the book at he library, then bought it.
