After watching this DVD it becomes clear why contemporary champions admire these Latin Heroes. De La Hoya copied Alexis Arguello. Roy Jones copied Salvador Sanchez. Hatton copied Roberto Duran. I watched this film hundreds of times on VHS (note to self: you need to get out more?)
This DVD beautifully illustrates Duran as a blunt battering ram who would take his opponents apart one body shot at a time. Arguello the consummate technician. Extensive highlights of Sanchez (who died in car accident at the age of 23) giving the great Wilfredo Gomez a systematic 8 round beating to his first defeat.
Extensive interviews with the Champs (both post-fight and present day). Expert Boxing analysis (including ABC Boxing expert Alex Wallau). Extensive fight footage. A tour of Puerto Rico, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama. Footage of Arguello advising and training young fighters at his gymnasium in Nicaragua, demonstrating his full-repertoire of shots in slow motion (a thing of beauty!)
Arguello's eloquence and charisma in these interviews really steals the show. Some of the one-liners he comes out with still have me in stitches.
This DVD is informative, entertaining, and such good value for money. Honest.
