Champions of Europe is a rare thing indeed - A high quality, well researched and professionally presented football DVD; narrated superbly by Des Lynam.
It gives the history of the European Cup / Champions League, from its inception in 1955 up to the 50th anniversary in 2005.
Running time is one and a half hours, during which you get to see highlights from every single final. There is an introduction to each game, giving a brief background to the teams involved, their managers and players. In addition, there are many illuminating interviews with some of the great players who have taken part such as: Eusebio, Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Charlton, Maldini, Beckham & Zidane.

This devotes 90mins to cover 50 Finals so it's not as good as it should be. Uefa could have commissioned a better, longer,error-free history (Nottingham Forrest ! for example). The price makes this a good dvd. I haven't seen some of the footage since the original occasion and it's good to see the likes of Beckenbauer, Eusebio and Cruyff in these games again.

For an official UEFA product, made by Universal no less, this is really sub-par. There is literally nothing on there but a year-by-year account of each of the 50 European Cup finals between 1956 and 2005. No behind-the-scenes stuff, barely any extras and only a few short excerpts of interviews. Luckily, I only paid less than a fiver for it, so I'm not too fussed - where else are you going to get video extracts from every European Cup final on one DVD? - but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone looking for something in-depth.
