DVD Description

Born in Spain, Luis Buñuel is widely credited as the founder of surrealist cinema with films such as Un Chien andalou (made with Salvador Dali) and L’Age d’Or. Sensing that someone with his political and artistic sensibilities would have no place in a Nationalist-controlled Spain, Buñuel immigrated to New York and later to Mexico, where his career in cinema really began. Although most of the films in this set were made in France, Buñuel would return frequently to his adopted Mexican homeland, eventually dying in Mexico City in 1983.

a champion film 21 July 2004
Format:DVD
Champions-the film based on the true story of Bob Champion, who beat cancer to win the Grand National on Aldaniti.
A brilliant tearjerker-all the more so because we know it's true.Poignant for me as my own father succumbed to this terrible disease.
Superb performances from 2 of this countrys' best character actors-John Hurt and Alison Steadman. A long time coming out on DVD but well worth the wait

This is one of my favourite ever movies because it beautifully combines horse racing, and an inspiring story of victory despite overwhelming odds. Whilst seabiscuit- a movie based along similar lines was oscar nominated, this film seems to have recieved very little recognistion, despite the excellent acting by John Hurt as Bob Champion and its beautiful score which can reduce even the most hard hearted viewer to tears.
Liking horses is not a necessary quality to enjoy this movie- it stands on its own like other great sporting movies i.e. Chariots of Fire, as a fantastic piece of art.
So buy it!

A Tale of Courage 10 Mar 2006
By A Customer
Format:DVD
very moving. I'm so glad Amazon recommended this movie to me! Half of it takes place in and out of hospital, where Bob Champion is being treated for cancer, but having known people with cancer, I found that part of the plot just as interesting as that revolving around horses.
The races (steeplechase) are beautifully shot, and I liked the honesty of the filmmaker, acknowledging at the end of the film that 'no horses or jockeys were seriously injured doing this film.'
Aldaniti plays his own part, and he leaps like a leopard!

This is the inspiring true story of a jockey battling with cancer but still pursuing his dreams. John Hurt is superb and the music is fantastic.
