Book Description

1 Feb 2013
Chalk Stream Fly Fishing A 21st Century Anthology is a collection of in-depth essays comprehensively surveying the world of chalk stream fly fishing in Britain. With contributions from over 12 writers, who all have a specialist knoweldge of the sport, it features pieces by experts such as Gordon Mackie, Theo Pike and the renowned entomologist, Dr. Cyril Bennett. Chapters cover the ecological and entomological character of chalk streams and their condition in the 21st century, fish and insect behaviour, seasonal angling tactics and specialised approaches, chalk stream ethos and angler etiquette, modern fly fishing techniques for trout and grayling, fly fishing for coarse fish in chalk streams, historical and modern artificial flies, chalk stream river management and the future prognosis for survival of internationally significant chalk stream ecosystems. The first substantial work on chalk stream fly fishing for many years, the anthology is designed to both inform the newcomer and entertain the experienced angler. Natural insects and artificial flies are illustrated with extensive, high quality colour photographs. Conceived, designed and edited by Graham Chalmers, in collaboration with the Salisbury & District Angling Club.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Chalk Stream Fly Fishing Book 5 Feb 2013
By AJEC
A brilliant book for anyone who fishes southern UK chalk streams. Each chapter is written by an author who knows their chosen topic well. I received it a month ago and have already read it cover to cover several times.

This is a superb book with high production values and excellent photography. Published in conjunction with, and dedicated to, The Salisbury and District Angling Club and I have to declare an interest as a member of the club.
Looks at the current state of chalkstream fly fishing in the round - management, ecology, entomology and chalk stream tactics for trout, grayling and coarse fish too so opportunities for sport even for those who do not fish premium waters. I have been updating my fly fishing library over the last few months with a few disappointing new titles amongst some newly published books.
But buy a copy of this and Peter Hayes' 'Fly Fishing Outside The Box' and you won't go far wrong (I suspect both will become classicsand will be referred to in years to come).

Sorry I can't give a meaningful comment on this as yet as I bought it for my brother for Christmas. All I can say is that the service getting it to me was excellent and the book looks very well produced and presented.
