Why is this DVD so fantastic? The answer is: this DVD contains a lot of surprises. The first one on this DVD is the fact that Miss Khan outperforms earlier work released on CD. Chaka Khan really shines on this DVD that consists of an interesting mix of new and old musical material. Songs which appeared already on CD (for example ' I'll be around 'and ' The end of a love affair'), come to 'live' on this DVD. Miss Khan is vocally better than ever and I was amazed by the easy and relaxed, but nevertheless intense way, she brings the music to you. In my opinion the reason for this fantastic appearance is the superband that is backing her.

So we come to the second (big) surprise: the band and the interaction with Chaka Khan. This creates a process in which they reinforce each other. The band can only be described in superlatives. Immediately after you start your DVD, the band opens up without Miss Khan, with a funky introduction that will attract your attention completely. The band plays and plays for many minutes, and it was just after they finished that opening number and during the intro of the second track that I started thinking: they gave me a wrong DVD in the shop, but I will keep this one and I 'll go back to buy the DVD from Miss Khan. The video registration contains sharp and crisp pictures and good colors. It is a pity that the DTS sound does not make use of its full potential by using also the center channel. Buy this DVD. You will enjoy it for a very, very long time.

Everybody with an ear for music knows Chaka Khan. From her bare midriff and feathers in the 1970's with the band Rufus, to the international big time solo 1980's hits of Ain't Nobody and most famously, Prince's "I Feel For You"; but here for the first time on this dvd we get to see Chaka as she always wanted us to see her... singing Jazz with a top band to back her up. And how fantastically well she does it. She puts "cool" into another perspective and puts all todays "singers" into the shade. Who cannot be torn emotionally by her voice as she sings "The End of a Love affair", and next uplifted by the joyous "I Loves You, Porgy". You can definately hear her life in her voice and see years of experience in her fantastic delivery of these songs.
Light the candles, pop open the wine, turn up the sound and just enjoy this class act in her finest form yet.

When I received this DVD in the post, I was expecting Chaka Khan to be singing her hits from the 70's and 80's. I was incredibly surprised to discover that I was in for a real treat. She sings the wonderful jazz numbers with a powerful rendition and supreme confidence. Her portrayal of 'I loves you Porgy' is one of the best I've ever heard. Mark Stephens on piano glides into the number perfectly. Amazingly, the other keyboard player also plays flugelhorn at the same time! The bass player is great as is the dummer too. They blend in beautifully with Chaka's great and powerful sound.....excellent DVD and recommended.

I never get bored watching it!!
