Great song. Energetic, catchy, lyrically complex and witty.

Five stars.

Wonderful addition to your Jamie T collection 24 Nov 2009

"Chaka Demus" is the second single released from Jamie T's sophomore album Kings & Queens. Jamie's trademark vocal styling and lyrical recounting of dealings with women, alcohol, mates, and the like are here, and this is but one demonstration from the aforementioned album of his true mastery of the art of telling such stories.

For this album, Mr. Treays has been releasing several EPs filled with great music. These b-sides are not throwaway tracks. Indeed, "When They Are Gone (For Tim)" is a very strong effort that demonstrates some versatility. However, the three b-sides found here would not have been stylistically consistent with the material found on Kings & Queens. In my opinion, it's a wonderful concept; Jamie T, Ben Bones, and company have assembled a great album, and the strong material which was cut for the sake of making said album cohesive sees the light of day on the single releases. In this way, fans are not only treated to a well-crafted album, but also get to hear great songs that would otherwise have gone to waste in the vaults.

For this reason, I give the "Chaka Demus" EP five of five stars, and highly recommend it to fans of Jamie T's work. The music contained herein helps supply a more complete picture of the artist's talent and offers a glimpse at successful stylistic variations and deviations which may recur in the future.
