The Cookies did the back-up vocals to many classic 60s tracks, among them 'The Loco-Motion', 'Breaking up is hard to do', and '1-2-3'. This is their complete output under their own name and a few others besides (Palisades, Cinderellas, Honey Bees). Here you'll find their own hits: 'Chains' (covered by the Beatles) and 'Don't say nothin' bad about my baby' and some that were hits by others, eg 'Foolish little girl' (Shirelles), 'On Broadway' (Drifters). Goffin and King and other Brill building friends wrote the songs and Carole King superbly arranged most tracks. There is truly great stuff here that has just been lost to history: 'Make the night a little longer', 'Please don't wake me' and 'I never dreamed' (which co-writer Russ Titelman acknowledged decades later as his finest work). They swapped around the lead vocals and never achieved the acclaim of the Ronettes & Crystals etc, but quality-wise the Cookies are well up there with the best. The original of 'I'm into something good' is a rare weak track, but worth the curiosity-value. Great booklet by RPM. Buy this.
