Product Description

A familiar urban legend gets a chilling new twist when a group of high school friends all receive a chain e-mail claiming that someone close to them will soon die if they fail to keep the message circulating. At first Jessie Campbell (Nikki Reed) thought it might just be a sick joke but when her friends break the chain and people start to die she realises it's only a matter of time until the Chain Man comes to claim her too.

2.0 out of 5 stars B Movie Gore Fest 27 April 2011
Bought this on a whim - seemed like it might be okay from the cover / started off with potential - but quickly faded into farce. The story made no sense whatsoever - it was never explained who the killer was / why he picked these individuals for slaughter & even when they did what was required by sending the email to 5 other people - they still got killed ?? The film ended abruptly / it never stopped raining for days - the biggest worry i would have thought for the townsfolk was not the killer, but the potential loss of life after weeks of rain ! Nobody switched on any lights in their home and all the teenagers seemed to live alone - you never see any parents - mmm ! Not the worst horror film i've seen - but worth a watch, just to spot all the errors.

3.0 out of 5 stars rubbish ending 23 Sep 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Overall the film isn't too bad, pretty gory and not too bad a story line. However the ending is rushed and doesn't really explain who was the killer you just assume.

1.0 out of 5 stars Product description sums it up... 27 Jun 2011
... but it should really be zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'd say the plot has more holes in it than a road after the snow, but that would at least imply that there was some attempt at a plot (which there clearly isn't).
Can't even recommend it for the gore - there's nothing remotely original about any of it (it tries desperately to steal from the likes of Saw and Hostel but can't even manage that).

Don't watch it... well, not unless you've got friends round that you really want to get rid of... ;-)

got this in a charity shop, for the exact same 1.99 pricetag that amazon currently has it on sale for. A theme that runs throughout the film is a general technological scare-mongery about how everyone/the government /the films mutilated mask wearing killer all monitor your phone/email and so on. As other reviewers have stated it doesnt make a great deal of sense and the matter isnt really brought to a satisfactory conclusion by the end. Having said that it held my interest from start to finish, its a good simple slasher flick as long as you dont take it all too seriously.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Horror Film 12 Dec 2012
By Pantheon TOP 500 REVIEWER
Do not read my review if you intend to watch the film

Firstly, there IS and ending to the film; and anyone who reviewed this stating there wasn't simply didn't understand the twist at the end. The twist? Yep, a twist - and here it was that the film starts in the same place it ends. Now, personally, I didn't see this coming and, subsequently, found this to be pretty cool.

I will concede that the constant rain in the film is a bit of a mystery and wasn't necessary to the plot. It was a poor choice by the director to do this. As for the absence of parents... I have no idea why anyone reviewing found this to be a surprise. Absentee parenting is very common. Just assume that these parents don't care about their children, and the lack of parental supervision becomes unimportant.

I think there were some cuts made to the film which made the middle section - where lots of chain emails were flying around from person to person - seem a bit muddled. You didn't know why the same person was getting the same email over and over again...unless you listened. The same applied to the motivation of the killer. In both cases the reason is in the film; you just have to listen to hear it.

The appearance of the killer is not explained though. Thankfully, I'm not one of those people who needs everything spelt out for me, so this didn't particularly bother me. I can make some assumptions. Also, I think the makers were hoping for a sequel, so they'd probably have explained it then.

A couple of the deaths in this film were very gory and easily a match for anything in the SAW franchise.

Overall, I enjoyed the film; and, in some ways, I wish I hadn't read all the negative reviews because then I would have seen it sooner.

I bought the blu-ray (for 4 from CeX) and the picture and sound quality were excellent. Only a trailer for extras, though.

Warning - review contains NO spoilers, because this film has NO ending.

Chain Letter starts with a reasonable premise and contains a couple of fairly gory deaths BUT, if you stick with it for 90 minutes, the biggest shock you'll get is the WTF moment when you think the Blu-ray or DVD has accidentally jumped back to scene 1 and the end credits roll.

I know most horror films demand you suspend your disbelief to a certain degree, but I still expect some logic to the story, some consistency of plot and, above all, some conclusion and closure. Chain Letter gives you none of these. It feels as if the film's producers decided they'd blown their budget on a couple of death scenes and had to pull the plug on the whole shambles.
What on Earth a character actor with the peregree of Brad Dourif was doing in this turkey I do not know.

If someone sends you THIS Chain Letter, do the world a favour and please do NOT pass it on.
