Product Description

It's been almost thirteen years since we last saw Cannie Shapiro, the heroine of Good in Bed, whose journey towards happy-ever-after made millions of women the world over laugh, cry and recognise themselves. The last decade of Cannie's life has brought some surprises. Her life story, in fictional form, became an unexpected bestseller, and Cannie has since retreated from fame's fallout, writing science-fiction under a pen name and praying that all her daughter inherited from her father, Cannie's ex-boyfriend Bruce Guberman, are her curls and her eye-colour, and not his predilection for smoking pot. Meanwhile Cannie's best friend, Samantha, is looking for love in all the wrong places, and Cannie's husband, Peter, has decided that he'd like to have a baby, and the family's first choice for a surrogate is none other than Cannie's flamboyant kid sister ...

Certain Girls 9 July 2010
Format:Paperback
Certain Girls by Jennifer Weiner continues the story of Cannie Shapiro, who we first met 8 years ago in Good in Bed. Cannie is now married to Peter and living an anonymous life writing scifi under a pseudonym. Her daughter Joy is struggling with barmitzvah pressure and hearing aids, and the brand new knowledge that her mums bestselling fiction book might actually be the real story of her own life...

I enjoyed Certain Girls so much more than I expected to. Good in Bed I remember as being great fun, but Certain Girls has definately grown up, and whilst there is some fun and laughter, this is not your typical chicklit tale of shoes and happily ever after with some cocktails and sex thrown in for good measure. It hits home hard on some very sensitive and emotional issues, and the ending is a real punch to the stomach. I loved it, and look forward to reading the rest of the impressive backlist from Jennifer soon.

So Disappointing! 19 Jun 2010
By Emma
Format:Paperback
If you were a fan of Good in Bed then don't, don't, don't read this book!! Good in Bed is one of my favourite books, and is the only chick lit novel which has retained a firm place on my bookshelf since I first read it. When I saw there was a sequel, I was so excited. But this book, although well written, spoils the first book irrevocably. Good in Bed was feel-good through and through, even in the poignant parts. Certain girls has very little feel-good, and tramples all over the fairytale ending. As others have written, there is very little of Cannie and her wry humour in this book, and very little of fabulous supporting cast, so to speak, from the first novel. Don't spoil Good in Bed by delving into Cannie's future with this one - it is too disappointing.

Certain Girls 18 April 2009
Format:Paperback
I had seen the Author of this book on morning t.v and ordered a copy of, Certain Girls. I found it a very easy read (am not into brain straining). You could in many ways relate to the main character Cannie Shapiro. I found this to be a funny and at times moving tale of the difficulties of being a parent and dealing with teenage angst. An enjoyable read.

Thoughtful and mature
This book was a totally satisfying read and I loved it. At the end I felt as if I'd been on a real journey with Cannie and Joy. It wasn't like 'Good in Bed' - it was better. Read more

Don't judge a book by it's cover
As some of the other reviewers have commented, the cover for this book is no guide to the contents, the girl on the front is too old to be Joy and too young to be Cannie, and the... Read more
