Product Description

Synopsis

Printmaking techniques have long been used in the pottery industry, but in recent years studio ceramicists have adopted these methods to make exciting works. In this book Paul Scott discusses many of the techniques that they employ. The original ground breaking book has in this edition been greatly expanded and brought up to date The methods included cover: screen printing, both transfer decoration and working directly onto clay; photographic processes; sponge printing; stamped ware; linocuts; prints from plaster slabs; the use of the photocopier, laser printer, computer-generated prints and other printmaking techniques. The result is the handbook on the subject.

printing in ceramics 17 Jan 2011
By Milena
Format:Paperback
although it was one of the first books of its kind,I found it not only dissapointing but extremely frustrating.Whichever project described in the book I undertook, it seemed as if the author was teasing by giving away very sparce and reluctant information. It all looks wonderful until you get down to details. He names most wonderful substances and materials I rarely found available anywhere and techniques are not explained well.
I have no idea why everyone praises this book.
I wish I could speak to the author and explain to him where he's gone wrong but I suspect he would not care for my opinions...

Informative overview on the marriage of print and clay. 28 July 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Paul Scott Takes you through the historical and contemporary uses of print and clay. Very little has been written about the unusual marriage between print and clay. The book is written in an easy to follow dialogue that explains the processes involved and includes many color photographs. I recommend the book to anyone interested ceramics and imagery.

Not a good instruction manual 6 Jan 2009
By Mary - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I took this book's description to mean it provides detailed instructions for various ceramic print techniques. I was therefore disappointed to find that it gives little more than an overview of each procedure. For example, in the screen printing chapter, the author mentions that Photoshop can be used to create halftone positives. But rather than provide a tutorial on the procedure, the author points readers to a better book on the subject.

I give the book three stars because it has an excellent glossary, health and safety information, and a decent list of ceramic and print suppliers. However, readers in search of a detailed ceramic print instruction book should look elsewhere.
