Product Description

Product Description

Some tiling books adopt a hypothetical stance to the subject. This book rejects this approach and demonstrates how a do-it-yourself enthusiast can carry out a tiling job to a high standard in situations that exist in the real world. Covers all the basic processes from designing the job through to the final grouting and cleaning down. Procedures, that are of vital importance, such as setting-out, are covered in considerable detail. The reader is told what can go wrong and given advice. Attention is also paid to tiling with terracotta, marble, slate and granite, that involve slightly different techniques compared to ceramic tiling. Presents highlighted, useful 'tips' throughout the text Well-illustrated with detailed, step-by-step colour photographs and diagrams.

John is very clear about how to tile, instructions are straight forward with handy pointers on potential problems so you can avoid them. It really does make all the difference to have this kind of advise and plan before you start. An invaluable guide if you want to get it right.

Good book 12 July 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
I read the book quite a few times before I tiled by bathroom. It also helped me make a list of all the tools I required. My builders and a professional tiler are all impressed with the results of my tiling, in fact the tiler had a look through the book and said its a good book. I am going to read through it again as I am going to be tiling my kitchen walls next.

Technically excellent. 26 April 2011
As I do lots of tiling for myself and others (self builds and being nice to friends etc.) and loving tiling I put myself on a two month intensive course on tiling. The techniques and information in this book I can therefore vouch for as being spot-on. Many tiling books (I have a few) are fluffy and lack technical detail about setting out and fixing tiles. This is the one book that stands head and shoulders above the rest on the important subject of setting out. The explanations and diagrams are clear and the systems work. Tiling is not the simple DIY job the tile and addy retailers would like you to think it is, you need a bit of technical help. If you do insist on doing DIY on more than a simple splashback then I'd recommend this book.
