A fascinating account of contemporary portraiture across the globe.
on 25 June 2014
Most of the material in this fascinating exploration of contemporary portraiture was researched and written by Jo Higgins. Her riveting analyses and narratives that accompany each entry are written with stylish clarity and great insight into the work of many cutting edge 21st century artists. By carefully grounding their work within the historical tradition of portraiture, Ms Higgins has been able to show the courageous leaps that these artists have taken by pushing the concept of identity beyond conventional bounds and by embracing a wide range of unusual media. The book is a joy to read from cover to cover or to dip into when the fancy strikes.
