Product Description

Product Description

Centred riding is a way of re-educating a rider's mind and body to achieve greater balance in order to better communicate with the horse. Founder Sally Swift revolutionized riding by showing that good use of the human body makes a world of difference on horseback. Early in her work, she established what she calls the 'four basics' - centring, breathing, soft eyes and building blocks - which, together with grounding, are the main tenets of her method. When a rider learns and maintains these basics, then harmony between horse and human is possible. Why a second book? Centred riding has continued to evolve and Swift has developed many new concepts, complete with fresh imagery, which make her approach both rider-friendly and fun. Chapters include: The Four Basics and Grounding; The Use of Self; Learning Balance and Relaxtion; The Following Seat; The Horse is Your Mirror; Discover Shared Energy; Gain Extra Stability from Riding in Three Seats; The Joyful Canter; Hands That Help, Not Hinder; Centred Jumping

About the Author

Sally Swift hardly needs an introduction as founder of Centred Riding. She wrote Centred Riding in 1985 which became one of the best-selling horse books of all time. Sally continues to teach on a limited basis in her home town of Brattleboro, Vermont.

This review is from: Centred Riding 2: Further exploration v.2: Further Exploration Vol 2 (Hardcover)
I love Sally Swift's books. This is a continuation from her first Centred Riding text, still drawing heavily on a variety of visual, audio and touch based imagery to help the rider find a clear and effective communication with their horse from the saddle. The Centred Riding technique teaches a truly classic and soft following seat, emphasis on the independence and balance of the rider with clear and simple explanations of how to positively influence the speed and direction of the horse.
If you can find an instructor qualified in these techniques I thoroughly recommend you book your lessons now, failing that a good instructor with an open mind should be able to help you apply these techniques to your riding... the change that this polite and quiet style of riding can effect in even world-weary riding school horses is remarkable as they start to realise they are actually being consulted with and not dictated to.
