I don't usually review items and I don't usually buy music on a whim but I did both with Central. I have neither heard nor bought any previous Technasia but I do love electronica and have quite diverse taste. I had become disillusioned and bored by other seemingly grand and established artists so I have been completely surprised by Technasia.
It is the perfect journey, not just through the Japanese subway which is the narrative aim of the record, but through various homes of quality techno (Paris, Chicago, Detroit)and other musical genres. Charles, blends these to make a cohesive piece of music which swells and bursts into your head, it recedes, alters and is punctuated by stops on the subway, doors opening and people talking. The music is full of hooks yet nothing is obvious, some tracks have me grinning so widely and others have a sophisticated menace which I haven't heard since some beautiful early drum and bass.
It's one of the few albums in the past few years which I have played repeatedly, straight through. Nothing is filler, nothing is trite, it's an album of musical beauty, wit and emotion. If this isn't on all the 'best of 2010' lists, I'll be sorely disappointed.
