Format:Audio CD
Clannad has been a childhood favorite of mine. In the spirit of that old fondness I purchased this collection of the best of Clannad. When Clannad is good, the music grips you and whisks you away to ancient times. Some of the finest songs from Clannad are here, from the classics "I will find you" and "Robin" to my personal favorites "In a lifetime", "Caislean Oir" and "Saltwater". Most of these songs can be found on other albums, so if you intend to get any, or all, of those, don't bother purchasing this one. In that sense, this album does not offer anything new, but for those who wish to learn what Clannad is all about, this is a good album to start with. Of the songs on this album, I had not heard "Rí na Cruinne" before and I quite liked it. Clannad's songs require some active listening. It's all too easy to put on the "mood music" and essentially fall asleep, which would be an injustice to the sensitive levels of these songs. I do recommend this album!

There are numerous Clannad compilation albums, with more or less similar tracklist, but I feel this one is really among the best of them all. It has the right selection of tracks from albums spanning the band's history from 1982 through 1997. All of the "important" tracks (in the IMHO context of course!) are here and the album fairly well represents the band's output. This is a fantastic starter for those who have not known the band yet and want to start their Celtic-themed journey with this band. Not a single track here feels out of place. There is even the UK hit Saltwater added as a bonus, the song which is actually performed not by Clannad, but by Chicane featuring Clannad's singer, Moya Brennan.

ok but nothing special
The CD is fine, nothing special. I wish it had more of Irish songs rather than plenty of keyboard instrumentals.
